The San Francisco office of this mid-size firm is engaged primarily in litigation and general business, although the firm boasts a solid regulatory and administrative law practice and a respectable labor/employment practice. The firm has a strong pro bono commitment; associates receive full billable hour credit for approved pro bono work and, overall, pro bono comprises 3-5% of all work. The billable hour target is 1850 and salaries are approximately 20% below market.
Trust & Estates Paralegal The candidate will assist with all aspects of the administration of estates. Handle the preparation of probate documents and miscellaneous court documents relating to probate court administration of estates and trusts. Communicate (in person, by telephone and in writing) with clients to obtain information required for probate and estate administration; communication with banks, businesses, insurance companies, brokerage firms, and others to collect asset information or information to collect assets and/or liquidate assets. Prepare and transmit all necessary papers to transfer securities. Prepare and file claims for insurance proceeds and death benefits. Prepare and allow accounts in the probate court; preparation of trust accountings. Prepare of federal and state estate tax returns. Open and close estate accounts. Bachelor s degree and paralegal certificate or appropriate job-related experience required. 5+ years of experience as a Trust & Estates Paralegal required. Experience: in probate matters, including drafting petitions and settlement of accounts; preparing federal and state estate tax returns; with trust administration, including the calculation and funding of trust shares required. Working knowledge of fiduciary income tax required. Excellent organizational, communication, analytical and critical thinking skills required.
