# Job Title: Patent Paralegal ## H1: Join our Team as a Patent Paralegal Law Firm is always seeking talented, motivated, growth-minded, and creative individuals to join our team! We are looking for a Patent Paralegal to assist the Intellectual Property Practice Section to function in a consistent productive manner. This position requires a high level of discretion and confidentiality in maintaining contact with clients, attorneys, and staff. ## H2: Duties and Responsibilities The Patent Paralegal will have a number of duties and responsibilities, including: - Ensuring policies and procedures are being followed on a day-to-day basis in relation to assigned duties, including client special instructions and in accordance with established firm guidelines - Monitoring and following-up on dates associated with the US and foreign docket, including clearing dates and providing follow-up with attorneys, clients, and management in order to provide adequate time to respond - Clearing daily docket reports in collaboration with the IP docket department and in accordance with established firm guidelines - Responsible for working with attorneys in keeping abreast of all rules and regulations and procedures for filing domestic and international applications, including all formalities related thereto - Preparing all administrative documents associated with USPTO patent filings for final review and approval by supervisory patent attorney and/or patent agent - Receiving and acting upon client instructions, including confirmation and/or draft response to client inquiries related to US, PCT, and foreign applications - Reviewing attorneys client information and ensuring that addresses and special instructions are being followed in accordance with the clients standard operating procedures - Maintaining client specific spreadsheets related to portfolio management, as appropriate - Creating and maintaining electronic worksheets to assist attorneys in managing client needs - Providing support for Patent Trial and Appeal Board proceedings and appeals - Processing assignments and name changes in the US and internationally - Drafting routine correspondence and/or formal documents for filing at the USPTO for attorneys and others as needed, proofreading, photocopying, scanning documents into the firm's document management system and assembling correspondence as needed - Completing internal checklists such as a Notice of Allowance checklist - Maintaining and prioritizing work on a daily basis and communicating if unable to meet daily responsibilities - Utilizing USPTO and other related government agency electronic resources effectively - Providing back-up support to other team members as needed, including IP Service Assistants and/or other IP Patent Paralegals if requested - Performing other duties as assigned for business needs ## H2: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: - Familiarity with US and international patent law, including inter-partes matters - Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff and provide information with courtesy and tact - Proficient in USPTO procedures and best practices, including working knowledge of Manual of Patent Examining Procedures and 37 Code of Federal Regulations - Ability to work under pressure while producing a high volume of information with attention to detail while producing an accurate document - Willingness and ability to accept changing assignments and priorities - Ability to compose, proofread, and edit (e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling) routine memorandums and correspondence - Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and problems and to recommend and implement solutions - Strong PC knowledge in order to utilize various online electronic filings with government agencies and to maintain worksheets for clients - Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) - Strong organizational and administrative skills - Effective communication skills, both verbal and written - Ability to search various websites in order to locate information in order to communicate with client or maintain accurate information in the firm's various software applications associated with IP - Ability to provide quality client service to both internal and external clients effectively and professionally - Ability to work effectively both independently and with teams to promote consistent and efficient workflow processes - Identify and respond to internal and external client inquiries in a timely manner and seek feedback/follow-up as appropriate - Ability to self-manage and work independently in a hybrid, and in-office setting - Ability to retrieve and carry items weighing less than 25 pounds ## H2: Education and/or Experience - Bachelor's degree or equivalent specialized training (i.e., paralegal studies or certificate from an ABA recognized program) is preferred - A minimum of four (4) years of progressive patent prosecution experience, including docket management, application filings, and prosecution in order to gain an understanding to provide support and planning that will ensure a high quality and accurate work product ## H2: Hiring Salary Range The hiring salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $110,000.00.
