Paralegal routinely follows-up with clients and potential clients about hiring the firm, the status of the client s case, and setting expectations as to the outcome for the matter. Drafts motions and (in rare instances) briefs. Interfaces directly with the Clerk of Court, First Offender Program personnel, and on occasion District Attorneys. Paralegal collects, organizes, files, and summarizes criminal defense information, discovery requests/responses, and conducts case research on the pertinent issues. Paralegal may also conduct case and procedure research, forms and filing, and follow-up with court or government agencies. Requirements : The candidate should possess an Associates degree preferably having a bachelor s degree and paralegal certificate. Must have proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Direct the work of the Corporate Paralegal-Level One position as necessary to meet client needs. The candidate must have a 4 years college degree or paralegal certification from an ABA-approved program or equivalent. Experience as a practicing paralegal in a law firm environment is essential. At least 3 years of experience with the firm in a Corporate Paralegal role and at least 5 years of overall experience in a corporate law firm environment are required. Experience in a corporate law firm environment with comprehensive knowledge of transactions such as mergers & acquisitions, venture capital financing, due diligence and closings is necessary. Ability to work independently and to assess clients needs in order to effectively liaise between clients and attorneys is critical. Working knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, document management and email/scheduling is needed. Strong math aptitude and ability to develop capitalization charts/spreadsheets is necessary. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism and discretion are must. A strong degree of personal initiative, motivation and positive attitude is needed. Must be effective at problem-solving and planning. Should be able to handle multiple assignments with minimal supervision and appropriate prioritization. Effect portfolio transfers and manage multi-client portfolios. Prepare and file powers of attorney and letters of instruction. Assist in trademark filing strategy discussions and due diligence. Assist with preparation and filing of responses of Office Actions. 3+ years of experience preferred. Should have extensive knowledge of U.S. trademark rules and procedure; working knowledge of national laws of other countries; knowledge of Paris Convention and deadlines set therein and familiarity with the Madrid Protocol. Should be proficient with electronic research tools such as Saegis, USPTO and WIPO databases; and conduct preliminary trademark searches and proficient with USPTO electronic trademark filing systems.
