Paralegal Manager/Managing Clerk Duties: Paralegal Manager: Managerial responsibilities include coordinating paralegal work-flow, developing department milestones / goals promoting efficient and optimal utilization of paralegals, training paralegals in billing practices, monitoring paralegal hours, recruiting and hiring paralegals as needed, and participating in paralegal performance evaluations. Will be expected to provide training and professional development to paralegals, develop department guidelines and procedures, form banks and department databases for resources, along with monitoring day to day supervision of all paralegal operations. For the Managing Clerk: Handling the calendar for attorneys (adjourning/confirming: conferences, depositions, motions); e-filing court documents, review of documents for form and procedural compliance to identify and remedy potential defects based upon the particular court s requirements, File documents in, and retrieve information from, court docket databases, e.g. NYSCEF, Pacer, E-Law. Excellent organization and interpersonal skills, and ability to multi-task required. Management responsibilities include supervising 2-3 assistant clerks in proper docketing, delegation of tasks as needed, e-filing, developing procedures for all departments as needed, supporting all paralegals / assistants and attorneys in complying with the above rules and procedures, and day to day operations of the department. Travel to all three offices to train or fulfill the functions of the position maybe required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and using document and case management software required.
Qualifications: Paralegal Manager: Candidate must have 5-10 years relevant experience in supervising a Paralegal Department, across three offices, which may include over 15 paralegals at a time. A combination of college level training or paralegal certificate, along with the experience in the essential functions of the job outlined above, preferably in a litigation firm. Travel to all three offices to perform the functions if the job is required. Strong interpersonal and excellent organization skills required. High proficiency in Microsoft office, document management, billing software and working knowledge of Lexis Advanced required. For the Managing Clerk, should have 5+ years of experience, in management of a calendar / docketing department. Should be proficient in the New York Civil Practice Law and Rules and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure as well as electronic filing requirements for all local State and Federal Courts.
