Some people pass this firm up as nothing more than the satellite office of a regional firm--nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, this relatively small office has a practice unto itself, especially in 'soft' intellectual property work, including licensing, joint venture work, and trademark litigation. Although the pay scale is not at the top of the class, this firm grooms partners, not ex-associates, and is a place many see calling their permanent home. Especially for someone who doesn't want to be pressured to stay in the office every weekend, this firm offers solid work in a positive environment.
Paralegal Duties: Assists attorneys in research and preparation of pleadings as well as daily assignments in relation to supporting active litigation matters and preparing for trial. Drafts legal memoranda and correspondence and conducts database searches and review medical records and client documents. Organizes and synthesizes information through the preparation of summaries, chronologies, reports, spreadsheets, charts, logs, and coding forms for input into databases, graphs and other usable formats - casts of characters, theme documents, mini-chronologies, expert summaries, medical and other literature searches and the like. Assists with discovery, particularly electronic discovery and the organization, management, collection, and production of documents maintained in electronic databases. Researches validity of cases and statutes. Organizes and prepares documents, exhibits, and other materials for use in discovery, hearings, or trial. Assists in preparing court filed documents and ensuring that filings are accurate, properly formatted and timely filed. Maintains and organizes litigation files and case materials. Verifies sources cited in legal documents and ensures proper legal formatting and citation. Monitors and tracks litigation dockets and cases and correspond with attorneys regarding case status. Qualifications: Four-year college degree in any discipline. 3 years of direct or related Paralegal work is required. Degree or certificate in Paralegal Studies is a plus. Previous law firm or legal experience preferred. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Knowledge of Work Site preferable, but not mandatory. Knowledge of MS Office 2010 and Windows 7 preferred. Ability to prioritize work from multiple attorneys/assignments simultaneously and successfully, many with tight deadlines. Excellent oral communication skills, especially the use of good grammar. Uses written communication that is technically sound, grammatically correct and without typographical errors. Excellent skillset in regards to knowing proper formatting of general correspondence and composition of documents. Willingness to learn special requirements as it pertains to local rules of court (both federal and state). Excellent organizational skills. Excellent attention to detail and strong proofreading skills. Extremely consistent in producing quality work. Typing speed of 65+ wpm. Able to manage contacts through available technical resources. Ability to handle confidential matters. Ability to comprehend and perform tasks as instructed or inferred. Able to work independently, as well as a team, with minimal supervision. Use of good judgement and effective interpersonal communication skills. Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills Initiative in developing and refining skill set, willing to work with new technology. Flexible and dependable, including the ability to work overtime as needed. Client Service driven. Respectful of peoples differences in background, culture and perspective. Able to quickly grasp the goals, service, culture and strategy of the department, the office and the firm overall. Adaptable to change, open to new ideas, open to taking on new responsibilities and can adjust plans to meet changing needs. Ability to use office equipment; (i.e. fax machines, copier machines, scanners). Must conduct him/herself professionally in appearance and actions. Must be dependable, punctual and have strong attendance.
