Paralegal / Legal Assistant The candidate will handle all facets of litigation in all counties throughout the states of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Will manage attorney s caseload draft pleadings, correspond with opposing counsel and the Court, fact research, interpret Court rules, document review and analysis, and manage the attorneys calendar deadlines and hearings. Retrieve specific dockets for review for ongoing litigation. Perform investigations for identification and location of parties, file summonses with the court, choose process servers, maintain contact and specific instruction to process servers and private investigators. Prepare, answer and compile discovery documents. Identify case specific problems and appropriate course of action, provide client updates and status, establish and maintain contact with pending clients, opposing counsel and defendants. Prepare for trial by identifying proper course of action, subpoena appropriate witnesses, notify witnesses of trial, draft witness outlines and lists, draft exhibit lists, compile trial documents, check local court rules, notify if jury or non jury trial, create chronology or timeline notebook, create trial notebook. Assist in maintaining file and document organization and maintenance, initiating new procedures for better operation and file scans. Retrieve case specific legal research, as well as independent research on cases and court rules. Maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality. Work cooperatively and interact professionally with others. Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with other. Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision. Work in an office environment, seated for long periods of time, in front of a computer, while typing documents, responding to emails, managing calendars and answering phones. Independently make decisions. Listen and understand questions posed by clients, attorneys, borrowers, opposing counsel, court personnel and 3rd parties. Operate a computer, copier, scanner, fax machine and telephone. Problem solve. Analyze and interpret information. Write and speak clearly and concisely. Multitask and prioritize in a fast paced environment. Maintain confidentiality. Must have High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 6 months legal experience or a paralegal certification is preferred.
