Paralegal The candidate's duties include: Follow the ethical requirements as set forth by the rules of Professional Conduct of the state. Draft, edit and finalize correspondence, memoranda, and other legal documents using word processing software. Maintain a docket/calendar showing the status of pending cases. Prepare cases for hearings and mediations (i.e., review/organize records, prepare case chronologies; analyze/organize records for documentary evidence and prepare list of potential witnesses. Draft routine pleadings, resolutions, declarations, contracts, settlement agreements, and other legal documents as appropriate. Draft discovery responses, and summarize deposition transcripts. Perform cite-checking, shepardizing, and legal research both manually and through the use of electronic resources such as Westlaw and/or Lexis-Nexis. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars and workshops to keep abreast of the latest developments in education law and other related areas; Should have Certificate of completion or a degree from an ABA-approved paralegal program or post-secondary institution. Must have excellent spelling, grammar, oral communication, and organizational skills. Should have 3-5 years of Paralegal experience and a desire to work with public school districts in the area of special education. Candidates with fewer years of legal experience who have prior work experience in education and/or ADR will also be considered. Strong research and writing skills are required. Litigation or administrative hearing experience is preferred.
