Associate Attorney The candidate will be afforded substantial responsibility for appearing in court representing clients in condemnation and real property rights related matters. Additional responsibilities include office and clerical matters such as billing (knowledge of QuickBooks), opening and closing of files, electronic and in person filing with the various court clerks, maintaining court/filing calendar, ordering supplies, and working with vendors.
Qualifications: 1 year of experience is preferred. Must have knowledge of the civil procedure, written and oral discovery, motion practice, and strong advocacy skills. Must also be familiar with and able to research title to real estate, including ownership, encumbrances, zoning, taxes, and cross checking data on other government websites such as treasurers, assessors, and zoning administrators. Tremendous attention to detail and effective organizational skills that allow multitasking, working under pressure and upholding a polished work product. Excellent verbal and communication skills to represent clients interests in court, to opposing counsel, and third parties, including expert witnesses and third party vendors. A professional and agreeable demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills, whether working with court staff, opposing counsel, retained experts or clients. The ability to apply critical thinking to each individual task and understand how the individual task relates to and advances the ultimate goal of the client. Fluid knowledge of Word, QuickBooks, and Excel, general computer and database skills. Computer and internet research is essential to identify and critically assess the content of real property documents.
