Immigration Paralegal The candidate will be responsible for: Identify, prepare, and file the proper Family Immigration forms, such as Petitions, Waivers, Adjustments of Status, Asylum, Citizenship, Forms of Reliefs in Removal Proceedings, Motions to Reopen, etc. from start to finish; Ensure all applications, motions, briefs, etc. conform to the exact specifications of the pertinent judges, clerks/secretaries, and practice manuals, etc.; Work patiently, efficiently, and effectively with clients in obtaining supporting documents and completing applications; Coordinate the collection, review, and production of documents; Meet with clients, attorneys, witnesses, and others to review and prepare cases; Act as a liaison among all parties, including court and other neutrals, for scheduling and sharing information; Assist with trial/hearing preparation, including reviewing and strategizing best practices for each unique case, investigating facts/laws, searching public records and other resources, assembly of exhibits, hearing binders, and filing of pleadings/applications; Expert in procedure with USCIS, the NVC, and also the Immigration, Oakland County, Macomb County, Wayne County, and Eastern Federal District courts; Shadow Attorney (from time to time) in court/USCIS to pick up on the above protocols that may vary between judges; Participate in professional organizations including AILA, ILRC, AIC, ICLE, SBM, ABA, NACDL, Super Lawyers, dBusiness, Martindale, and any other top-tier associations you believe are beneficial to consistently help us improve our publicity, knowledge, stay informed, and help Attorney become a better lawyer as he continuously seeks to improve; Participate in and/or observe and provide analysis of ICLE, ABA, and any other CLE seminars; Assume responsibility of emails regarding above organizations that send newsletters and keep well-informed of relevant new organizations, laws, policies, news, webinars, updates, etc. Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations in legal documents; Draft memos, motions, letters, or outlines and submit as needed any relevant alerts/notices that we may need to know about and use your judgement whether to inform Attorney right away or at our weekly meetings; EG: Medical Marijuana, Recreational Marijuana as it relates to impaired driving laws, including Supreme Court Decisions, and how we can represent our clients best; EG: MSP breathalyzer updates; EG: File motions (including brief, pay fees, praecipe, ) to suppress or request an evidentiary hearing (complex briefs will oftentimes be assisted by our brief-writing expert); Keep track of all cases and follow up with clients to see how they re doing, whether they have questions or concerns, and to always keep them apprised of the case status, and aware we are engaged; EG: Call and/or send notification letters to clients, updating them on their next hearing; Gather and analyze statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents and other data; Daily record-keeping of case updates, statuses, filings, etc.; Organize and maintain documents in electronic filing system; Put systems in place for everything we do to track it; Update email newsletter list; Use Lead-Tracking processes to follow-up with prospective, current, and former clients; Track Metrics! Calls-per-Day, Referrals, Consultations, Retained, Case Types, Revenues per Case Type; Find speaking opportunities; Find any other opportunities that will help increase Attorney's presence as a criminal defense and immigration expert; Email/call professional press releases to our local and national news outlets, consistently, to show how articulate and active Attorney is as an expert in his field (with the goal of becoming a legal expert on TV) - follow up with phone calls and more; Mail handwritten letters to clients at every stage: post-consult, post-retainer, post-case, 6-month follow-up, etc. Mail handwritten letters to: Prospective clients; Clients who did not retain us; wishing happy birthdays; thanking them for referring others (See Guerilla Markeing , Part 10. Guerilla Style Maxi-Media @ 1:40:58 on Audible); Understand the importance of gifting; Participate in educational opportunities to keep up-to-date on job knowledge; Read professional publications; Cultivate and grow professional relationships; Excellent organization skills; Attention to detail; Legal research and investigation skills; Ability to follow direction and procedures; Strong written and oral communication skills; Ability to prioritize workload and assignments; and Innovate, research new tech and methods, and improve the way we do things. Must have Bachelor's Degree. Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program of education and training, or a degree in paralegal studies essential. Should have 5 years of significant and substantive litigation experience as an immigration paralegal in a law firm. Must be proficient with Microsoft 365, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
