Counsel Attorney The candidate will prepare legal documents and briefs involving various areas of intellectual property, patent, and technology-related litigation laws for a wide range of national and global corporations. Will conduct legal research, review technical/engineering literature and documentation, interview engineers and technical experts, review and understand source code, draft motions and briefs, argue at claim construction hearings, and take and defend depositions for major corporations and other clients involving complex technical litigation within the technology sector. Prepare for pretrial and trial proceedings in patent litigation matters, including preparing fact and expert witnesses for direct and cross examination. Search for and review prior art. Orally argue discovery and dispositive motions before courts. Manage fact and expert discovery for patent cases. Draft discovery pleadings, invalidity and infringement contentions, and expert reports. Prepare briefing, petitions, and other materials for USPTO proceedings, including inter partes review proceedings and reexaminations. Serve as point of contact for client and opposing counsel. Advise clients on legal and business issues relating to international laws, including patent infringement matters and breach of software and system development contracts. The candidate should have a J.D. degree in Law and 1 year of work experience in job offered or 1 year of work experience in a legal-related occupation. Should have a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline such as computer science. Experience must include 6 months with each of the following: working on various intellectual property and patent litigation matters before district courts, the Federal Circuit, the ITC, or the USPTO; technologies such as computer hardware, electronics, telecommunications, computer programming and software, and signal processing; drafting motions and briefs, including on discovery issues, dispositive case issues, and claim construction; drafting discovery pleadings, infringement and invalidity contentions, complaints, and answers; prepare for and take or defend depositions; draft expert reports on issues such as non-infringement and invalidity; conduct legal research; search for and review prior art to support invalidity defenses; and correspond with opposing counsel, including in meet and confers on discovery disputes. Must be able to be admitted to the California Bar. Should be available to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the US.
