Legal Secretary DUTIES: Under attorney direction, file, prepare, and handle written documents as required including responses, reports, filings, pleadings, answers, motions, interrogatories, contracts, opinions, letters and other documents as necessary. Under attorney direction, drafts written correspondence or memorandum. Organizes and analyzes documentary evidence including medical records, reports, depositions, discovery, and other documents and summaries. Prepares and handles tracking and disposition of subpoenas or other request for information. Ensures organization of files including maintenance and management. Monitors files and escalates issues requiring attorney involvement. Performs timely handling of highly sensitive issues and materials related to case. Maintains calendar for trial and discovery deadlines. Assists with trial preparation as needed. Communicate with clients, carriers, other attorneys from time to time. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Paralegal certificate a plus. High School Diploma or its equivalent. Years of prior legal secretary experience supporting litigators in civil defense preferably in a high-volume, fast-paced law firm environment. Strong working knowledge of area of specialization (general liability and/or insurance defense). California State filing experience including E-Filing experience required. State and Federal Courts. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook required. Requires critical thinking skills, excellent communication and organizational skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be proficient with calendaring and calculating deadlines and dates for discovery, motions, pre-trial deadlines, etc. Must be comfortable with looking up, reading, reviewing Court Rules, Local Court Rules, and Department Rules. Excellent communication and writing skills.
