Trusts & Estates and Elder Law Associate The candidate should have experience in estate planning, estate administration and probate including, but not limited to: Marshalling, Identifying and Verifying Client Assets; Applying for Estate Tax I.D. Numbers; Preparing and Filing Federal & New York State Tax Forms (706 & ET-706); Filing New York State Power of Attorney & IRS Forms (2848 & ET-14); Obtaining Date of Death Valuations; Preparing Receipt and Releases; Voluntary Administration; Drafting Estate Planning Documents; Informal and Formal Accountings; Strategically troubleshoot and resolve common estate obstacles and challenges. Review, Analyze and Interpret Financial Statements - specifically to identify any potential issues that could arise with a Medicaid Application prior to submission; Liaison and Communicate Effectively between attorneys, clients and Medicaid; Follow-up and Follow-through are each a MUST as compliance with Medicaid deadlines is crucial to a successful case outcome; Assist Clients in transferring assets and funding trusts, including forms, transferring information, communicating with financial institutions, accountants, other lawyers, etc. Should have 2-3 years of experience. Must be a quick learner, able to multi-task, able to prioritize duties, have strong organizational skills, and willing to research for each department of the firm. A familiarity with the NYS Medicaid application process (Community & Chronic), and other necessary estate planning strategies and documents required to get clients through the process is preferred. Juris Doctor degree (J.D) from an accredited law school required. Admitted to practice in New York required. Proficiency in MS Office required.
