Paralegal Assistant Responsibilities: Will need to prepare applications and court documents for review. Will need to be adaptable in a constantly changing environment. Will be responsible for keeping cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting case work in client files; adding information in file databases and case management software; reviewing and confirming case status with supervisor and/or attorney(s). Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling interviews; communicating and reviewing client appointments and deadlines. Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for learning to handle new and different requests; explores opportunities to add value to job skills and abilities. Requirements: High school or high school equivalency. Some college required; college/university degree preferred. Fully bilingual Spanish/English. Attention to detail is vitally important; strong organizational skills are required. Ability to juggle multiple activities and work under pressure. Must be computer literate, proficiency with multiple software applications, including Adobe Acrobat, Gmail, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel and similar word processing and spreadsheet software. Knowledge of research a plus. Must be a team player to join the firm and help primarily in our immigration department. To a lesser degree, the position will also involve assisting in other matters as needed; such as administrative tasks and/or criminal law. Must be able to work flexibly to multiple deadlines, in a team environment. Dependable and proactive. Must be dedicated to meeting deadlines. Must be able to communicate effectively with clients from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds in both English and Spanish. Must answer and direct phone calls. Schedule appointments, hearing dates and mediations. Must be able to conduct investigations and statistical/documentary research.
