Paralegal, Medical Malpractice The candidate will be responsible to provide paralegal support with a variety of duties to assist attorney representing healthcare providers and facilities in medical claims and lawsuits. Duties include: Provides medical record acquisition support, including identifying health care providers; preparing releases and letters to obtain complete medical records, x-rays, and billings; organizing, chronologically summarizing, analyzing, and indexing medical records and billings; prepares a timeline of events; transcribes handwritten chart/record notes, prepares tables, charts, and graphs of data; recommends and prepares documents for attorney and expert review. Identifies potential medical personnel/witnesses by deciphering names from medical documents; locates important witnesses; suggests list of deponents; schedules and summarizes depositions; reviews and assists attorney in preparation of preliminary and final witness lists. Reviews and analyzes cases in order to assist in preparation of all aspects of discovery in litigation. Draft pleadings and discovery for attorney review. Assist in trial of cases including witness coordination, exhibit preparation and tracking, and trial presentation. Identifies medical experts by recommending areas of expertise to be consulted; obtains and provides a list of potential experts, locates specifically names experts (defense and/or plaintiff); researches backgrounds of experts, obtaining curriculum vitae; interacts with experts; prepares documents for review by experts; maintains reference notebook on experts. Completes medical research by utilizing personal knowledge, experience, reference library, and internet; defines and interprets medical language; defines and interprets medical procedures; defines and interprets medical-hospital/office policies. Supports case presentation by preparing slides, spreadsheets, charts, and graphs based on investigative findings. Improves quality results by studying, evaluation, and re-designing processes; implements changes. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explores opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. The candidate must have critical thinking skills; analytical skills; strong written and verbal communication skills; strong technological and computer skills; and ability to execute duties within a team environment. Ability to work effectively within Microsoft Office systems and various trial preparation software environments is required. Must be graduate from an accredited paralegal training program or a combination of education and experience are required.
