Paralegal The candidate will work in a legal office primarily focused on auto accident, personal injury, civil litigation and some criminal law. Will start an auto accident case from intake, refer clients out for treatment, gather and negotiate medical bills, prepare demand letters and complaints and service, if necessary. Assist with drafting, editing, reviewing and filing of legal documents (pleadings, motions, discovery, contracts). Manage organization of all client files, including scanning for paper-light office. Assist with preparation of incoming and outcoming discovery, including working with clients to gather information and documents, and preparation of document requests to non-parties. Maintain office calendar, including coordination and scheduling of meetings, discovery deadlines, court appearances, conference calls, client reporting; send calendar invites and reminders; and track deadlines and status of cases/matters. Includes reviewing correspondence to identify dates to be calendared. Prepare checklists, timelines, issues list and document schedules, as needed. Assemble documents for client matters; compile signature pages and exhibits and ensuring that final documents are complete; and distribute same to parties. Record billable time for client matters on federal cases. Assist with administrative office tasks.
The candidate should have college degree and/or paralegal certificate. Must have 2+ years of experience as a legal assistant in a law office setting. Civil litigation experience is required. Familiarity with litigation pleading and discovery document formatting, and related civil practice deadlines is needed. Should be knowledgeable about Word formatting and MyCase Case Management Software.
