Paralegal Responsibilities: Speak with prospective clients to determine suitability of new clients to meet with attorneys. Draft legal pleadings for attorney review, including petitions, motions, and discovery. Meet with clients throughout discovery process and assist with procurement of documents requested. Communicate with the court, including with Judges and their staff, to schedule hearings and draft Rule to allow for hearings to be scheduled. Develop practice-specific knowledge, skills, and experience to manage projects and determine appropriate course of action; maintain proficiency in technology relevant to the position. Organize and maintain documents in a paper and electronic filing system. File pleadings with court clerk via e-file, email, arrange for hand delivery. Help prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed. Investigate facts and laws of cases to prepare cases for hearings. Effectively organize and manage assignments to complete competing tasks within a timely manner. Draft leave of absence documents and conflict letters. Run credit card and other payments, as needed. Answer the telephone and field calls from prospective and current clients (when there is overflow from the receptionist). Comply with administrative requirements to meet billable expectations and enter time on a daily basis.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree required. 2 years relevant experience in practice area or comparable work experience preferred. Exemplary organizational skills. Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines. Strong writing and communication skills. Strong sense of accountability and taking ownership over projects. Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects; flexibility in shifting focus. Proactive approach to finding solutions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
