Associate Attorney Duties: Provide legal services to municipal clients with an emphasis on litigation, appellate advocacy, administrative law, eminent domain, and code enforcement. Practice in the field of Municipal Law to include the following areas of law: annexation; budget and fiscal management; economic development; elections and voting rights; ethics and professionalism; land use and development; law enforcement and municipal court; legislative consulting and advocacy; open meetings and open records; personnel and employment matters; procurement and construction projects; real estate transactions; utilities and telecommunications; water, wastewater and the environment. Attend client evening meetings (e.g., city council, planning and zoning, board of adjustment, park advisory board, wastewater advisory board, etc.). Workloads vary but sometimes require working after hours and weekends. Hiring Authority and Supervisor: Alan Bojorquez, Managing Attorney. Advocate on behalf of municipal clients in state, county and federal courts. Act as litigation for municipalities as either plaintiffs or defendants. Advise clients regarding contract disputes, personnel matters, eminent domain, and enforcement of regulations. Represent municipalities before the State Office of Hearings Examiners and related agencies in administrative matters. Handle appellate matters. Serve as Municipal Court Prosecutor. Draft ordinances, resolutions, contracts and policies. Counsel city leaders on a variety of legal topics. Analyze legal problems, conduct legal research, and factual investigation as needed to perform the tasks undertaken on behalf of clients. Demonstrate knowledge and expertise of the law and legal system. Demonstrate proficiency with a case management system, Adobe and Microsoft Office products and social media tools and the ability to learn new technologies to carry out job functions. Ensure that all client, project, and computer files are maintained in an orderly manner. Maintain the highest ethical standards as a member of the State Bar. Ensure that all appointments and deadlines are calendared and timely executed with sufficient time dedicated for management approval of legal documents. Qualifications: Member of the State Bar of Texas. 3+ years of relevant legal experience. Experience before state, county and federal courts. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work without close supervision and to independently produce error-free documents. Preferences: Demonstrated experience in Municipal Law. Background in State or Local Government Law (Public Law or Administrative Law). Independent and self-motivating. Organized, dependable and steady. Capable of transitioning between numerous clients on multiple subjects daily. Innovative and resourceful problem-solver. Excellent communicator (oral and written).Committed to public interest / government-related law. Suited for private practice, including ability to generate billable hours.
