Family Law Attorney Responsibilities: Organize and maintain client files to ensure they are kept current. Work closely with paralegals and senior partners to ensure swift action through the civil litigation process. Manage the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings when needed. Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients. Create legal documents such as pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases. Work closely with paralegals and Managing Attorney to ensure swift action through the civil litigation process. Assist individuals in a variety of situations such as navigating prenuptial agreements and attending court hearings for divorce, alimony/spousal support, and child support. Qualifications: Must have a Bachelor's degree with a legal background and a J.D. degree are required; active membership with the ABA (American Bar Association); strong knowledge base of representing plaintiffs and defendants; prior work or studies in criminal justice preferred; have experience with a range of sensitive legal issues such as child abuse, child custody, and domestic violence, and be able to maintain composure, negotiate, and argue effectively even in emotional and high-stress situations. Should be great negotiators and communicators, specifically in situations when emotions and stress are high. Must be admitted to practice law in New York State and in good standing with the bar.
