Attorney Development and Retention Manager - Litigation The candidate designs and implements firm-wide professional development opportunities for attorneys in the Litigation department. Works with the Director of Attorney Development and Retention and Litigation department leadership on issues related to attorney retention, morale, workflow/workload, communication, and all associate processes, such as the attorney evaluation process, attorney compensation/bonus process, and income partner election process Has a major role in providing a supportive, professional environment for all attorneys in the department, and serves as a resource throughout their careers at the firm. Develops curricula for attorneys in accordance with identified needs and in consultation with Practice Group Leaders, Partners and individuals in firm management. Designs professional development programming to support curricula, core competencies and incidental training needs. Works with the department Heads, Business Manager, Practice Group Leaders and Local Litigation Coordinators to develop initiatives that ensure proper associate development and satisfaction within the Litigation department. Designs professional development programming to support curricula, core competencies and incidental training needs. Rotates with other AD&R Managers in leading annual firm wide attorney programs and retreats. Coordinates coaching engagements with external coaches in various areas. Facilitates feedback conversations between partners and associates, and periodic practice group or department meetings during which associate development issues are discussed. Collaborates with the department leadership, Director of Attorney Development and Retention and RHR to address attorney performance issues. Counsels attorneys through Performance Improvement Plans. Oversees the peer and partner mentorship programs. Works with RHR to determine appropriate mentor pairings. Collaborates with other AD&R team members on creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of internal website, communication vehicles, e-learning, and other training resources. Stays abreast of trends in attorney career and professional development through the PDC and NALP Foundation, among others. Other tasks as assigned by Director of Attorney Development and Retention, PPC Chair or other members of firm management/leadership. Should have a J.D. degree. Relevant experience in Litigation practice area is preferred. Must have 3+ years of experience in a law firm environment, preferably as an attorney or in the training, marketing or career development fields. Should have ability to travel as needed. Settlement Paralegal Candidate will provide a broad range of administrative and operational functions to maintain the Section 32 department. Will include: Complete the C32 process from start to finish, including completing C32 workups. Analyze claims to determine if settlement is the best option for the client's future case handling strategy. Analyze the value of claims taking into account multiple factors. Explain the Section 32 process to clients in terms that are understandable to the client and adjust communication skills accordingly. Answer all routine questions related to settlement, internally within the Firm. Communicate with insurance companies, attorneys and clients in negotiating the best possible settlement for clients. Prepare and send demand letters, acceptance letters, no interest letters, etc. Respond to all C32 inquiries, including emails, phone calls and faxes received in the office, whether client has an interest, or carrier/attorney has interest. Discuss demand, offer and/or counter offer with client. Prepare letters to clients, carriers, doctors, attorneys, MSA vendors, Medicare, SSA and any entity as it relates to the settlement process. Determine on a case by case basis if Medicare approval is needed. Obtain Medical Set-aside and approval from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, if appropriate. Correspond with MSA vendors and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services regarding medical setasides including sending/obtaining releases, obtaining and reviewing annuity documents, sending letters to clients, carriers, doctors and attorneys and obtaining clarifying medical records upon request. Review settlement agreement drafts, make the required revisions, prepare language specific to each claim and provide to attorney for review. Obtain finalized agreements, all necessary signature and file all documents with the NYS Workers' Compensation Board, carrier(s) and/or attorney(s). File paperwork. Correspond with the Workers' Compensation Board regarding paperwork. Immediately respond to any issues regarding settlement paperwork or hearings. Prepare fee petitions and fee notes for all C32 cases. Prepare necessary legal documents to the Social Security Administration and/or Medicare to include the finat settlement documentation, if necessary. Input settlement information into our file and close file accordingly. Qualifications: Experience in handling New York State Workers' Compensation claims, excellent communication and multitasking skills, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.
