This large, rapidly growing, full-service law firm is making big strides in the global realm of telecommunications, e-commerce and dot coms in addition to having a very notable practice in international commerce, corporate and contract litigation. It is located in the Pacific Northwest with branches in the West and in Washington DC. Associates are encouraged to pursue community involvement to enhance their well-rounded approach to law and life. Billable hours credit is given for Pro Bono work, and the firm's hours requirements are very reasonable. Strong mentoring and training programs are present.
Trademark Paralegal The candidate will perform all billable tasks relating to one or more one or more of U.S. trademark applications. Madrid Protocol applications, and foreign trademark applications; including application filings, registration maintenance and renewal and recording assignments, security interests and releases. Assist with office action responses in the USPTO, WIPO and with foreign associates. Assist with opposition and cancellation filings with the TTAB. Assist with UDRP filings with WIPO and other arbitrators. Assist with trademark litigation filings in federal and state courts. Work with docketing staff to maintain, revise and update trademark docket. Prepare and send basic client reminder correspondence. Prepare and send basic foreign associate correspondence, regarding deadlines, formal documents, and prosecution inquiries. Provide and maintain electronic and paper files, as well as review and approval of all docketed deadlines. Assist with investigation, research, USPTO informational searches and internet searches, review documents, and summarize findings as directed. Handle new client file intakes, and new counsel transfers. Prepare and file copyright applications. Review and process copyright takedown requests. Learn and maintain complete knowledge of the patent and trademark docket software program, train staff, and assist practitioners in the use of the docket system and maintain updated procedures requested by practitioners regarding implementation of firm docketing policies. Photocopy, file, and search files for documents; prepare, index, and review documents for delivery, storage and destruction. High school degree or equivalent is required. College degree is preferred. Must have paralegal certificate in appropriate jurisdiction and 3-5 years of relevant experience. Patent experience is a plus. Must have strong aptitude for computer software application programs and be able to learn quickly or have working knowledge of applicable software programs for carrying out trademark and copyright duties, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, trademark and copyright filing programs, online services, records management systems, and docketing programs (currently, we utilize Foundation IP docketing software), in a Windows-based environment. Must be capable of using the firm's timekeeping system to capture time for all billable tasks and to record disbursements, in a competent and timely manner to ensure proper billing for all billable tasks.
