Attorney Development and Recruiting Manager Duties: Coordinates and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations and executes long-range plans. Discusses strategic (i.e., long-range) planning with the New York office by developing departmental goals and supporting objectives for department. Oversees all programs involving attorney recruiting (recruiting of summer associates, lateral attorneys, entry-level associates and judicial clerks). Oversees on-campus recruitment process and supervises department staff in the scheduling of interviews, coordinating on-campus meetings, and conducting office tours. Oversees the preparation of Hiring Committee meeting materials and hiring statistics for the Hiring Committee. Travels to campus recruiting events as needed. Supports the senior Chicago Attorney Development & Recruiting staff as the main point of contact for both lateral associate candidates and search firms throughout recruitment process. Manages logistics involved with summer associate arrivals, events planning, training, assignment process, evaluations, and summer hiring meetings. Oversees attorney orientation, training and development, and evaluation program for summer associates, associates, and counsel. Partners with New York office on the implementation and oversight of attorney development and training programs. Plans and coordinates office/Firm-wide attorney events in partnership with Conference Services. Attends summer associate events and other Firm-sponsored recruiting events throughout the year. Assists the Chicago Diversity & Inclusion Manager on diversity & inclusion and women s initiatives. Supports the Chicago Diversity & Inclusion Manager with assigned Firm-sponsored attorney affinity networks, including assisting as needed on the implementation of programming and initiatives as set forth in the affinity networks annual plans. Works with the Chicago Attorney Development staff, the New York office, and Professional Development Managers to ensure timely completion of attorney evaluations on an annual basis. Oversees CLE accreditation for internal and external courses in partnership with the Chicago Attorney Development & Recruiting staff and the Marketing Department. Partners with the New York office to effectively resolve work-related problems and/or conflicts that arise within the practice groups. Ensures current knowledge of firm policies and practices for staff, current knowledge of industry trends, and continued professional development for staff. Participates in the interviewing, selection and training process of staff. Supports the senior Chicago Attorney Development & Recruiting staff in monitoring time, attendance, overtime, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with firm policies. Effectively utilizes the Firm s performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance. Oversees employees work performance and provides guidance in the resolution of problems. Initiates disciplinary procedures in collaboration with the Human Resources Department. Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service and improved employee relations, in alignment with the Firm s Core Values. Develops and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures. Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services. Forecasts financial and budget requirements for the department, provides the Chicago Office Administrator, the Chicago Accounting Manager and the New York office with recommendations for changes, prepares related reports, and monitors the budget. Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others. Manages Firm resources responsibly. Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. 5+ years related experience in a law firm or other professional services firm environment. 3+ years supervisory experience. Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques. Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems. Knowledge and implementation of the annual budget process. Broad and thorough knowledge of Attorney Development & Recruiting Department. Effectively employs coaching and problem solving techniques. Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrates close attention to detail. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills. Demonstrated experience with leading and supervising others. Ability to administer Firm policies and procedures. Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities. Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality. Ability to organize and prioritize work and delegate effectively. Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment. Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team. Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment. Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.
