This firm is often at the top of the list of prominent Boston law firms. Large and growing, these lawyers are well-connected throughout the Boston area, and are looking to increase the reach of their influence. With beautiful offices (that seem to go on and on...) the lawyers here are generally quite happy with their practice. Why? At the associate level, lawyers are given a bit more responsibility than your average law firm lawyer, and depending on the practice group, given quite solid training and structured mentoring. Although the partners are increasingly conscious of the billable hours of their associates, they are generally accessible. In particular, several of the litigation partners bring in high level litigation work and remain very involved throughout to monitor and guide the associates participation.
Court Procedures Specialist & Attorney Duties: Responds in a timely and immediate fashion to workflow requests of firm attorneys and professional staff relating to court rules, court procedures, court filings, filing of new cases, and other court-related tasking as well as requests for work product precedents and court docket information. Develops and maintains effective professional working relationships with judges, court clerk personnel, firm attorneys and support personnel. Assist the Managing Attorney by executing on workflow requests requiring substantive legal knowledge. Acts as the primary Court Procedures staff resource responsible for (i) appellate court filings compliance reviews; (ii) foreign discovery both federal and state; (iii) the issuance and service of non-party subpoenas (federal and state); and (iv) assisting the Managing Attorney in responding to process and subpoenas served upon the firm. Provides substantive assistance in the preparation of court filings, perform court rules compliance checks on court filings and coordinate filing and service of court documents. Appears in court, as needed, to obtain procedural orders, coordinate service of process and communicate with firm attorneys and outside vendors. Participates in the management and refinement of Court Procedures knowledge sharing initiatives including creation of searchable indices for work product precedents; compiling biographical and other pertinent data (decisions, best practices, etc.) on federal and state judges; and identifying and organizing outside vendors, i.e., process servers, court reporters and copy services regularly employed by the firm. Provides assistance to the Court Procedures Groups LED function by conducting substantive legal research and analysis in response to complex calendaring and procedural inquiries. Qualifications: A JD Degree and membership in good standing of the Bar of a jurisdiction in which the firm maintains an office. Relevant experience in a major law firm setting preferred. A thorough understanding of the federal and state rules of civil and appellate procedure, and federal and state jurisdiction and the ability to harness that knowledge to identify and analyze issues and reach sound recommendations and conclusions on court rules, procedure and jurisdictional issues arising from the Litigation Departments daily practice. The ability to participate in the staffing of the Court Procedures Team after hours e-filing rotation. Flexible to work outside regular business hours through participation in Court Procedures Teams CM/ECF after-hours electronic filing rotation may be required. Detailed and extensive knowledge of state and federal court rules and structures. Excellent legal research and analytical skills. The ability to train and supervise junior staff. Superior organizational, project management and time management skills, including the ability to multitask with changing priorities to meet strict deadlines. The ability to respect, protect and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information. Superior client service and litigation support skills. The ability to work independently, take initiative, and be proactive. Possess professional demeanor with excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills and the ability to work cohesively and constructively with all levels of firm personnel. Proficiency with PACER, CM/ECF, and other Electronic filing engines (e.g. Lexis Nexis File & Serve, NYSCEF, PRPS, etc.). Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
