The qualified candidate will be a California Licensed attorney with the demonstrated ability to provide our clients tax advisory and defense services, entity formation, trust and estate planning. GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB Independently the incumbent is responsible for managing client legal matters from initial consultation to close of case in the scope of tax law and estate planning including but not limited to client representation for providing legal opinions, representing clients in respective tax, district, or state court, trusts and estate plans, and entity formation. Responsible for the management of assigned legal support staff, including oversight for the effective completion of assigned tasks, and execution of performance management in accordance with company policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Legal Responsibilities Receive assignments from firm administration and onboarding and have the ability to independently prioritize assignments, work on a number of assignments simultaneously, identify and meet deadlines. Make court appearances independently and handle various tax law hearings on behalf of clients. Argue and oppose motions in court and take cases to trial. Develop positive, effective, mutually beneficial client relationships. Communicate with clients, internal firm staff, and opposing counsel in a timely and efficient manner. Perform legal research and drafting of a wide range of legal documents. Analyze and summarize legal documents. Develop, implement, and maintain effective case management strategies. Responsible for the timely and accurate data entry of all client matter activities in our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool. Collaborate and effectively engage with other firm functions, such as tax preparation, estate planning, accounting services, and human resource services in the holistic and comprehensive service delivery to our clients. Utilize assigned resources effectively to ensure cases are completed in a timely manner, ensure case notes, documents, and information is properly stored in our CRM, and policy and processes are executed when it is time to close a matter. Provide timely client engagement and customer service with a focus on service delivery and client satisfaction. People Leadership Champion the promulgation of the Moskowitz culture and core values through demonstrated behaviors. Perform personnel functions such as selection, training, evaluation, goal setting, performance management, corrective action, coaching and mentoring. ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS Collaborate with the legal team on solutions to meet client challenges. Model the firm's core values both within the firm and externally as an ambassador of the firm. Maintain the highest level of ethical standard and confidentiality in the execution of all duties performed. Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines. Complies with all company policies and procedures. Remains current in profession and industry trends. Makes a positive contribution as demonstrated by: making suggestions for improvement learning new skills, procedures and processes. Is available for other duties as required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervise the administrative legal support professionals in your assigned practice area. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE California State Bar License Three (3) years of experience practicing law. Two (2) years of litigation experience in U.S Tax Court, District Court and Superior Court in CA. Three (3) years of experience in tax law representing clients in audits and tax controversy. Two (2) years of experience in trusts and estate planning. Three (3) years of experience using legal research, case management, customer relationship management, and various electronic filing systems. Two (2) years of experience managing legal support professionals. LANGUAGE SKILLS Read and interpret documents such as policies, business documents, regulatory notices, legal documents, financial and tax records and information, and standard operating procedures. Write routine reports, depositions, pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and business correspondence. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios to practical solutions. OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES OR QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated expertise in legal forms, tax audits, tax criminal matters, and tax preparation. Demonstrated expertise in successfully fulfilling job responsibilities while working remotely. Demonstrated experience in tax law or legal specialty for which you would provide services in the firm. Knowledge and experience of law firm administrative practices and operational activities. Familiarity with tax preparation, financial, and legal services, and delivery models. Demonstrated experience as a change agent, collaboration, process improvement champion, and engagement specialist. Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements. Computer skills: Demonstrated expertise in Canopy or similar Customer Relationship Management system, case management technology, and legal research systems or platforms. Demonstrated expertise in the MS Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining speed of work and attention to detail without loss to productivity. Ability to perform under stress in cases of emergency, critical or hazardous situations. Ability to work with others in a team environment. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Less than 10% domestic travel. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to touch, handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
