Associate Bankruptcy Attorney Responsibilities: File Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases. Monitor caseload to ensure deadlines are met and cases are moved toward resolution. Prepare legal correspondence, pleadings, and motions. Meet with potential clients and evaluate potential Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases. Handle regular court appearances primarily in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, as well as state county, district, and justice courts around the Houston and surrounding areas. Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations and provide legal advice and analysis to the firm and clients. Communicate with potential clients, current clients, opposing attorneys, bankruptcy trustees, court personnel etc. Perform computer data entry to update and maintain client files. Requirements: JD Degree from accredited law school with license to practice law in Texas required. Admittance to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas required. Admittance to practice in the Western, Eastern, and Northern District courts preferred. License to practice law in other states is a plus. 3 years experience as a practicing bankruptcy attorney preferred. Advanced knowledge and thorough understanding of bankruptcy law required. Significant experience filing and handling Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases will be considered in lieu of 3 years experience as a practicing bankruptcy attorney. Experience practicing in federal district and federal bankruptcy court is required. Knowledge of both federal and Texas bankruptcy and consumer protection laws. Ability to analyze case law, statutes, and regulations and provide legal advice and recommendations. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. Possess strong organizational and time management skills with the proven ability to work in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment. Ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm.
