Associate Attorney The candidate will attend court hearings and trials while achieving resolution of Consumer Collections files for the clients through routine negotiation and/or litigation. Represent clients at legal, administrative and other proceedings as assigned. Participate in the development of strategy, arguments, and testimony in preparation for presentation of cases. Document account/file activity in accordance with the Firm s policies and procedures. Negotiate with individuals to achieve final resolution of cases, arrange legal settlements, and resolve routine issues, as assigned. Research and interpret laws, rulings, and regulations and formulates legal opinions for review. Interview clients and witnesses in preparation for legal proceedings. Identify causes of action and prepares lawsuits based upon an investigation of facts and applicable laws and procedures. Review, draft, and/or dictate legal briefs, correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents. Conduct discovery in conformity with applicable rules. Monitor routine case files to formulate next course of action and ensure deadlines are maintained. Assign and review the work of department staff, as required. Act in compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and other applicable consumer protection statutes and regulations. Develop and maintain relationships with current clients. Act with the highest ethical standards both as a legal professional and as a member of the Firm. Actively promote professionalism, collegiality and diversity within and outside the Firm. Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) and 2-3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required. Creditors' rights or collections experience preferred. Must hold a current, valid state license to practice law in Illinois. Additional license to practice law in Wisconsin, preferred. Knowledge of relevant laws, legal codes, legal/court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and electronic legal research tools such as Westlaw required. The ability to interpret and apply legal principles and procedures and develop effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, and court systems required.
