Family Law Attorney The candidate will assist individuals in a variety of situations such as navigating prenuptial agreements and attending court hearings for divorce, alimony/spousal support, and child support. Handle the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings as needed. Assist clients effectively by understanding their needs analyzing the situation then strategizing and deciding on a proper course of action. Maintain client files to ensure they are properly organized and up to date. Represent clients in court proceedings as needed. Work closely with paralegals and senior partners to ensure swift action through the civil litigation process. The candidate must have a 4-year degree with a legal background and a J.D. degree with 1-2 years of experience in working with family law and real estate required; active membership with the ABA (American Bar Association); ability to successfully represent both plaintiff and defendant sides of a case; experience with a range of sensitive legal issues such as child abuse, child custody, and domestic violence, and be able to maintain composure, negotiate, and argue effectively even in emotional and high-stress situations. Should be great negotiators and communicators, specifically in situations when emotions and stress are high. Must be admitted to practice law in New York State and in good standing with the bar.
