Paid time off Vision insurance Legal Assistant/Paralegal The, LLC is searching for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join the firm. The ideal candidate is self-driven, motivated, and hard-working. This is a very demanding position and requires someone with a high level of multi-tasking, organizational skills, attention to detail, research and writing skills, and the ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines. Exceptional and thorough research and writing skills are a must! Pay is commensurate with experience. Job Description: Salary: $17 - $22 an hour Job Type: Full-time Qualifications: Bachelor's (Required) Legal Assistant/Paralegal: 1 year (Preferred) Paralegal Certificate (Preferred) Benefits: Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Responsibilities: Handles all mail; Maintain communication with clients and provide case updates promptly; Frequent phone coverage with potential clients, clients, witnesses, court staff, etc.; Following up with clients to ascertain needs, and progress in the case; Responding to client messages and emails within same day; Check attorney e-mails; Communicate with opposing counsel; Keep track of the case status for all clients; Check with courts to determine if attorney is on the calendar for any hearings or trials; Engage in heavy phone work including answering potential and current client calls and answering their questions; Managing cases from intake to disposition; Scheduling and filing documents in multiple jurisdictions, process discovery, draft motions and other pleadings, and provide criminal litigation support; Assist attorney at trial; Prepare attorney for trial; Follow up with multiple courthouses regarding the filing status of various cases; Assist with calendar management, including late-calls to courts and coordinating with appearance attorneys, when necessary; Prepare subpoenas and open records request; Draft and Prepare motions, legal briefs, proposed orders, pleadings, and affidavits, under the supervision of an attorney; Conduct extensive legal research using WestLaw; Identify and research legal issues that may arise in a case; Frequent proofreading; Client list organization including statuses, last contact, and next court date; Ability to manage and accurately recall current information for many clients; Review and synopsize discovery, preparation of witnesses, build trial binders, prepare mitigation and sentencing materials, etc.; Conduct jail visits with incarcerated clients; May include some administrative tasks when needed. Required Skills: High level of multi-tasking and attention to detail when handling and filing case information and documents; Consistently provide exceptional customer service; Excellent grammar skills; Superb attention to detail; Ability to work with minimal supervision; Strong computer based knowledge and research skills are a must. (Word, Excel, MS Teams, Outlook, WestLaw, Google); Excellent problem-solving skills; Responsible, reliable and maintains confidentiality; Able to communicate clearly, concisely and in a professional and courteous manner with clients, colleagues, courts, expert witnesses and others; Capable of proper documentation and organization of client files; Independent, able to work under pressure, reliable and a team player; Highly organized and process-driven; Has solid verbal and written communication skills and can produce polished written work; Curious, dedicated, and eager to zealously advocate for each of our clients; Poised under pressure and able to function at a high level even when things get busy by working together and communicating effectively; Comfort in asking questions and for help when needed. Qualifications: One year of prior criminal defense work preferred; Familiarity with MS Office/Outlook, WestLaw, Google Drive, and Dropbox is required; Experience with case management software is a plus; Ability to accurately type at an appropriate speed, at least 60 WPM; Thorough command of the English language, including excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation; Thorough familiarity with legal terminology; Exercise good judgment; Familiarity with court systems at the local and state level, or ability to learn quickly.
