Paralegal Duties: Assist attorneys of the firm by performing numerous tasks, including: Draft operative pleadings, discovery requests to include interrogatories, request for admissions, request for production, deposition notices and responses thereto; subpoenas and orders. Assist in preparing cases, to include reviewing and summarizing documents, written, oral and personal contact with clients, witnesses, experts and adversaries; investigative work; deposition summaries; analysis of damages; organizing and preparing trial binders; typing indices and labels, preparing correspondence and memos; and designing visual trial exhibits. Organize and maintain documents pertaining to litigation through the use of word processing and other computerized media. Have a general understanding of case pleadings, discovery and correspondence received on a daily basis. Coordinate appearance of counsel at various depositions, hearings, etc. and their response to pleadings and discovery. Assist in document preparation tasks to include filing, bate stamping and labeling, tabbing, indexing, duplicating and faxing. Accomplish other duties as required and requested by supervisory personnel. Ability to work as a team with attorneys and legal assistants. Regular attendance during prescribed work hours in the office. Ability to work overtime when required, such as during trials. Comply with continuing legal education requirements as prescribed by statute. Qualifications: Either (1) a certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal program, (2) a certificate of completion from a paralegal program or a degree from an accredited post-secondary institution requiring a minimum of 24 semester units or (3) a Bachelor's or advanced degree in any subject from a post-graduate institution with 1+ years' law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney active in the State Bar for 3+ years, along with a declaration from said attorney. General knowledge and understanding of the organization and functions of the firm. General knowledge of case law, statutes and other regulations required to perform duties in the litigation area. General knowledge of basic principles, concepts and methodology used in legal research, including online search through Lexis or Westlaw. Ability to independently exercise discretion and judgment. Ability to identify, evaluate and extract pertinent information from a wide variety of sources and documents. Ability to analyze and interpret complex issues, and determine, as appropriate, an alternative course of action. Ability to communicate effectively and to deal professionally with others using tact and discretion Ability to work effectively under pressure. General knowledge of computers to include word processing.
