Director, Strategic Human Resources Attorney Talent The candidate will report to the Chief Legal Talent Officer - Americas. Will demonstrate thought leadership in and lead the human resources and attorney compensation programs ensuring they meet the firm's strategic business priorities. Work closely with the Americas Regional Managing Partner (RMP), the One Americas Leadership Team and the Office Managing Partners (OMPs), Practice Group and Area Leaders. Also work closely with the Americas People Team, including the Director of Attorney Talent, and the Director of Diversity & Inclusion. Establish strategic relationships with the RMP, the One Americas Leadership Team and OMPs, Practice Group and Practice Area Leaders as required and working in close collaboration with members of the Americas People Team including the Director of Attorney Talent to deliver on operational targets. Develop an understanding of the business environment within which the firm operates and the operations of the firm in order to provide appropriate thought leadership, aligning people strategy with business strategy. Lead the firm's strategic initiatives in the design, analysis and administration of all strategic compensation matters for the lawyer population across the Americas. Create financial models to base analysis and decision making. Analyze industry trends and makes recommendations based on those trends. Proactively drive assigned people initiatives, ensuring high quality and timely completion. Ensure the Chief Legal Talent Officer - Americas is kept up-to-date regarding specific developments, including any potential risks as well as team progress against specific targets. Make a positive contribution to the Americas People agenda. Keep up to date with current employment law, competitor and best practice policies and developments, building relationships across the industry as appropriate. Build relationships with and coordinate with internal colleagues including, Benefits, Tax, Payroll, HRIS, and Immigration. Leverage expertise in compensation and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current legal market compensation data. Undertake detailed scenario planning and modelling in line with potential approaches the firm may wish to consider for our lawyer population. Evaluate the performance and effectiveness of our existing approaches to compensation, advise firm leadership and make strategic recommendations for salary and bonus changes in the Americas to ensure we remain competitive against key competitors while ensuring an appropriate and commercial approach. Liaise with counterparts in our other regions, including the Head of HR Transformation, regarding approach, timing, and overall global alignment with the understanding of considerable market variations. Review, manage and recommend individual compensation for associates, counsel, attorneys and attorney-level specialists annually (or as often as needed) and advise practice leaders and other stakeholders as to any modifications, as appropriate. Where needed, coordinate with the pricing team and the hiring partners to identify and align correct compensation and billing rates. Work with the International Assignments and Secondments Manager to streamline and advance the firm's international assignments, HL Passport, LLM/Foreign Lawyer and Secondment programs. With the associate recruitment team, manage the on-boarding process for all new attorneys, ensuring seamless integration of data and policies and coordinate with the HRIS and HR Operations team as necessary. Work with the relevant Office Administrators and business services teams, manage the leave and off-boarding process to ensure compliance with firm policies and procedures. Maintain knowledge of HR policies, programs and work with the General Counsel's office on policies affecting associates including office transfers, remote working and return to office. Resolve and communicate day-to-day employee policy questions and issues and serve as a trusted liaison between HR, management, and employees with respect to policies and procedures. Work with the Chief Legal Talent Officer - Americas to oversee conflict resolutions, investigations and provide guidance on employee relations in consultation with Employment Counsel and the General Counsel's office. Manage and advise on HR data integrity from entry through full employee life cycle, from proper setup of new employees, day-to-day compensation and employee transactions and terminations. Compile and analyze Human Resources data to drive decision making and assist with data and reporting requirements. Work with the relevant teams and systems owners to develop, analyze, and present reports detailing performance results. Collaborate closely with the people related functions, including HR - Americas - Business Services, Benefits and Wellbeing and the Finance department. Participate in the development and management of the Firm's budgets and related business plans. Perform other related duties as assigned. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in finance, statistics, economics, business administration and/or human resources. Must have 5-10 years of strategic HR experience in a related role, working in a business partnering environment, preferably in a major law firm, professional services or similar sector. Familiarity with employment environments in Mexico and Brazil would be a plus. Should have a high level of energy and drive combined with the presence and credibility to deal with a sophisticated audience. Must demonstrate a collaborative style and work as an effective team member who is able to build a network of relationships internally and externally in a multi-cultural matrixed environment. Should demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, diplomacy, and excellent judgment in navigating sensitive issues. Must be a strong advocate, coupled with excellent written and oral communication skills and a willingness to listen. The ability to coach a variety of people, including colleagues as well as senior individuals within the business to ensure successful outcomes is required. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to see the bigger picture are needed. Effective project management skills including the ability to plan ahead, prioritize conflicting demands to meet deadlines for the team are essential. Strong working knowledge of Excel and financial modeling is a must. High proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel is a prerequisite.
