Paralegal / Policy Assistant Duties: Research and drafting proposed bills for submission to the NJ Senate and Assembly with the goal of promoting progressive social change through passage of new law; research and drafting policy papers that will be submitted to potential sponsors in the NJ Senate and Assembly to explain the need for the change to the law; convening and documenting meetings and phone calls with the law firm s pro bono clients and progressive partners in connection with social justice initiatives; coordinating the drafting and filing of court submissions, such as amicus briefs with regard to litigation in the state and federal courts coordinating a potential initiative currently being contemplated to expand the above items to include progressive partners in other states calendaring and administrative follow up for attorneys and staff in regard to social justice initiatives; and general organization, logistics and other duties related to the law firm s social justice work so that it proceeds in a rapid and organized fashion. Will also provide paralegal assistance and general support for law firm s private commercial practice. Will include among other items: handling the drafting and scheduling for cases in the Special Civil Part of the Superior Court of New Jersey; providing litigation and transactional support for firm s attorneys; handling the formation of corporations and LLC s; basic legal research and writing; administrative tasks such as answering phones, filing, ensuring that supplies and other items are provided for practice; and in general working with paralegal team to ensure an organized and efficient office environment. Qualifications: Training and Prior Experience preferred. An exceptional writer; be a quick study; have a proven intellectual curiosity; be well-read and up to speed on current events; be eager to augment his or her current skill set; have sound judgment and a can-do attitude; be open-minded and able to work in a nimble and fast-paced environment; be able to get along with people; have a high-tolerance for stressful deadlines and situations; and possess a demonstrable interest in social justice and commercial law. Should be comfortable working on both pro bono progressive social justice causes, as well as legal matters involving private paying clients.
