First Party Attorney Duties: Set up claims with first party carriers. Draft Notice Letters in accordance with DTPA. Contact clients every 2 weeks during the life of their case to discuss case updates, medical treatment status, and answer client questions. Gather all pertinent evidence and information to prosecute first party cases Perform inspections of damaged property (in some cases) Maintain detailed reports on the status of all cases in inventory Responsible for handling complex first party claims and high-volume work. Contact insurance adjuster/opposing counsel regarding status of coverage decision, being diligent in obtaining coverage decision.. Review all mail, email, and incoming faxes, filing, drafting correspondence to clients, experts, courts and adjusters as needed. Handle high call volume and frequent client contact. Perform related duties as assigned by Managing Attorney. Maintain compliance with inventory checklist. Draft Pleadings and Discovery/Discovery Responses. Conduct pre-trial hearings. Handle Mediations. Prepare Trial Notebook. Try Cases. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures. Requirements: Licensed Attorney by the State Bar of Texas. 2+ years' Civil Trial experience. 2+ years' experience handling first party claims (Defense or Plaintiff s). Working knowledge of claims investigation techniques, legal aspects of claims. Strong negotiations skills, with a desire to negotiate. Ability to effectively and independently manage heavy caseloads while exhibiting good judgement. Ability to think critically, solve problems, plan and organize activities, serve clients, negotiate, and effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Analytical skills necessary to make decisions and resolve issues inherent in handling claims. Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a high-volume environment. Effective communication skills to explain the facts and logic used to arrive at decisions in a way that the customer understands. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Must be able to work high caseload and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service skills. Ability to work independently and to carry out responsibilities to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices. Excellent organization and time management skills required. Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office Word, Excel and Outlook). Needles Case Management Software experience is a plus.
