Legal Secretary Duties: Assist in the management and work-up of numerous asbestos/Mesothelioma personal injury and wrongful death law files and support two or more case-managing attorneys. Prepare and file/serve assorted documents to clients, counsel and, courts as needed, such as correspondence, deposition notices, contracts, briefs, motions, orders, petitions and discovery; Responsible for proper filing and service of all documents. Qualifications: 3+ years' litigation experience from a medium to large size firm in the paralegal field of plaintiffs personal injury litigation, preferably asbestos; Experience with e-filing and e-service in multiple jurisdictions, including Federal courts; must have experience using online file and serve portals such as Pacer, ECF, Lexis, etc. Experience with managing case deadlines across multiple cases filed in different jurisdictions; Experience in communicating with local counsel in other jurisdictions to get documents filed or served; Creative problem solver who takes initiative to accomplish tasks with a minimal level of supervision; Ability to work with/around various attorney personalities; A team player with a great attitude; Ability to maintain a busy caseload between 30-50 cases; Experienced with a variety of computer applications and internet programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, LexisXpress, File & Serve, LexisAdvance or Lexis.com (research), ECF/Pacer, Amicus or Needles (client database). Must be able to type 40-50+ WPM. Strong Organization, oral and written communication, and analytical skills; Detail oriented, adherence to deadlines, ability to multi-task; Ability to learn quickly and function in a fast-paced environment; Knowledge of California and Federal Civil Procedures from case acceptance to trial.
