Paralegal/Legal Assistant The candidate will organizes and coordinates office activities, including scheduling hearings, scheduling appointments with clients, preparing legal documents, drafting correspondence, filing documents, assisting with billing, and providing information and direction to others. The work requires knowledge of legal, secretarial, and office practices. A paralegal should be a highly organized self-starter with the ability to assist the attorney. Greet and communicate with clients and guests in person or on the telephone in a courteous and professional manner- including answering, screening and/or directing inquiries; Represent attorney by communicating and obtaining information, following up on delegated assignments, and knowing when to act and when to defer to the attorney; Complete clerical work - including opening and closing files; and organizing pleadings, orders, and correspondence; Appropriately calendar appointments for the attorney; Manage clients by timely informing clients of upcoming deadlines and by acquiring documents or information requested by the attorney; Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and maintain personal networks; E-filing documents;. Review emails, respond to emails with direction from attorney; Draft, with the help of the attorney, emails, letters, pleadings, orders, pretrial motions, discovery responses, and subpoenas; Prepare Exhibits for Court Hearings; Proofread all documents before they go out to client, other attorneys, or the Court; Communicate with Court Coordinators Schedule, as directed by the attorney, hearings, mediations, and other appointments;. Additional Tasks as needed Be professional and courteous to all current and potential clients, attorneys, court staff, and vendors; Be familiar with Family Law, and the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure; Be familiar with court and clerk procedures, including any local rules of the counties of the Texas Panhandle; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook; Proficient in case management software like Pro Doc; Proficient in Adobe; Familiarity with social media is preferred; Detail Oriented- Ability to read documents submitted by clients; and take appropriate action based on information contained therein; ability to keep clients on task by acquiring information requested from attorney for hearings or responding to discovery; Ability to prioritize tasks based on deadlines and amount of time required to accomplish each task; Experienced in both written (e-mail) and verbal customer service - providing accurate and professional information, but providing No legal advice; Proficient in typing accurately- excellent spelling and grammer is required; Ability to take detailed, accurate notes and records; Promptly respond to emails and voicemails; Excellent proofreading skills.
