Paralegal - Personal Injury The candidate will manage initial client contact and intakes. Oversee setup of new physical files and computer files, including entering all routine intake and contact information into our TrialWorks case management system. Oversee all initial case activities, including representation letters, requesting initial medical records and police reports, completing PIP applications, assisting with property damage issues, securing witness statements, and documenting entitlement to PIP wage or necessary services benefits. Draft/mail routine correspondence like medical record requests, client inquiries, insurance company information requests, etc. Receive, scan and file correspondence. Maintain all files 100% up-to-date, with documents filed appropriately with up-to-date indexes. Request, track, receive and organize medical records. Schedule and calendar appointments and meetings. Maintain contact with clients at least monthly so that all clients are well-informed about case issues, status and progress and feel they have a responsive and readily available advocate, and so that we always have up-to-date information regarding the client's health, treatment, and wage loss status. Draft settlement worksheets. Obtain medical bill balance verification prior to settling cases. Complete and send out settlement demand packages. Document and record all case activity and communications using the firm's trial management database software. Timely identify all case issues to address them proactively prior to entering settlement phase of the case, including cases that warrant medical referral to specialists or consulting physicians, cases that have high value and an early opportunity to secure insurance limits, cases where the client is not compliant with treatment recommendations or alternatively is accruing excessive medical costs, or cases with other issues requiring unusual workup such as high wage loss or self-employed wage loss. Actively manage cases to move them forward into the demand phase at the earliest opportunity, avoiding long delays after a client approaches the end of their treatment. Procure resolution of steady flow of cases each month. Assist with negotiation and settlement of cases. Ensuring settlement documents are executed and checks are received promptly once a settlement has been negotiated.
