Criminal Defense Attorney the candidate will attend court hearings or other legal proceedings, perform legal research, and work with senior associate attorneys to provide legal advice. Maintain client files in an organized fashion to ensure up-to-date information is handy for other attorneys, paralegals and support staff. Prepare for and attend arraignments, readiness conferences, probation revocations, sentencings, etc. Effectively litigate pre-trial hearings and motions (e.g. preliminary hearings, PC 1538.5 motions, PC 995 motions, etc.). Negotiate plea bargains or negotiated dispositions at the misdemeanor and felony readiness conferences. Prepare for and assist senior attorneys in trial preparation. Opportunity to first chair and/or second chair trials dependent upon experience and skill level. Counsel clients as to their legal defenses, constitutional rights, and strategies with respect to their cases; consistently communicate with clients as to the status of their case. Conduct research and draft pleadings, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and motions. Conduct administrative DMV hearings for DUI cases. Assist in the preparation of defending against and prosecuting temporary restraining orders. The candidate should have a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree required from an accredited law school. Must have at least 2 years of experience working in criminal law (criminal defense or prosecution). Bachelor A?s degree with a law degree from an accredited law school. An active member in good standing and no disciplinary record with the State Bar. Exceptional communication skills and problem-solving skills are needed in order to work with all levels of staff and our clients. Prepared to learn from senior attorneys to meet our client needs and grow our client base. Excellent legal research and writing skills. Must have an outstanding command of the courtroom; must project confidence and competence when engaging with clients and opposing counsel. Must be able to empathize with clients, and provide excellent customer service. Verbal communication skills are critical, along with time management and interpersonal skills.
