Legal Assistant/Paralegal The candidate keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software; confirming case status with attorney. Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; preparing and forwarding summonses and subpoenas; drafting complaints; preparing and filing discovery requests; preparing responses to opposing counsel; generating status reports. Keeps clients informed by maintaining contact; communicating case progress. Enhances trial proceedings by organizing evidence; preparing exhibits; and scheduling witnesses. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities. Draft, proofread and/or disseminate legal documents and correspondence as directed by the attorney. Administrative duties to include, but not limited to, copying, answering and directing telephone calls. Scheduling of hearing, depositions, mediations, conferences, examinations under oath and other events as directed by the attorney. Managing tasking system to ensure timely completion of all tasks assigned and updates to deadlines. Gathering and organizing records, documents and other materials. Timely and efficiently maintaining case management data within case management program. Other duties as assigned. Should have Reporting Skills (Taking phone messages with accurate information). Must have research Skills (Ability to use computer databases). Legal Administration Skills (Typing skills of at least 60 WPM) are required. Must have a year legal experience in a law office. Knowledge: Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems including, but not limited to, word processing, electronic and physical records management; Basic knowledge of office equipment and ability to interpret manuals, instruction forms and directions; Advanced knowledge of word processing applications such as MS Word, Basic knowledge of computer applications such as MS Outlook, MS Excel, client portals, internet and research programs; Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain efficient working relationships with others; Knowledge of basic legal concepts and processes; Knowledge of legal terminology; Knowledge of the litigation process; Knowledge of court procedures including, but not limited to Florida E-Filing (ECF); Knowledge of computer applications including MS Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook, internet and research; Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services.
