Will prepare pleadings (Summons, Civil Cover Sheet, Notices of Appearance, Notice of Hearing, Motions, Affidavit of Service, Certificate of Service, etc.). Review, proofread and prepare pleadings drafted by the attorney for filing, including collection of exhibits, preparation of certificates of service, summons, cover letters, identify PPI and redact exhibits, etc. Obtain additional title information from online register of deeds, requesting additional needed documentation from client, ordering title searches, other task requests, skip traces, researching entity information as needed, etc. Ensure service is completed after complaints filed, following up to request A and P summons, obtain service via process service or publication as necessary. Monitor deadlines, alerting attorney of critical dates, calendar dates and follow ups. Assist attorney with hearing preparation. Confer with the court to schedule hearings and to obtain information as needed. Assist administrative staff with providing client updates as needed. Confer with opposing counsel, title companies, code officers and other county administrative personnel, etc. regarding files. Draft title claim letters, request for reconsideration. Contact code enforcement authorities to request documents and information, follow up after administrative hearings and request any orders, alert attorney of hearings, city/county counsel meetings, as necessary. Research local court rules, confer with clerks, etc. to ensure compliance with court expectations. Notarize documents, keep notary log. Witness conversations with borrowers and make notes to file regarding same. Run Caseware reports on cases and track case flow. Review of complaint and investigation of company file (if provided) Discussion of factual background of case with attorney and recommendations concerning any further factual investigation necessary; In certain cases, preparation of stipulation extending period in which to answer or otherwise respond to complaint; Preparation of initial draft of answer or other responsive pleadings; Obtain and index/organize all documents provided by the client relative to the litigation, including chronology of documents; Preparation of initial draft of interrogatories, requests for admissions and requests for production of documents; If necessary, schedule appointment with expert witness(es), prepare draft letter to expert, forwarding materials for his/her review; Preparation of initial draft notices of depositions, scheduling of reporter and conference room, preparation of subpoena, when necessary; In certain cases, review of deposition transcript and preparation of outline of same; Extensive preparation and organization of client s documents for production, in certain cases by e-discovery; Extensive organization of documents produced, in certain cases by e-discovery; Scheduling of witness interview, informing witness of trial dates; in certain cases, the paralegal may be asked to conduct an initial interview; Preparation of motions as requested by assigning attorney; may be requested to do limited legal research, jury verdict research, expert witness research, obtaining case law, shepardizing and cite checking cases from briefs; (the litigation paralegal should have a good working knowledge of Westlaw); Preparation of and marking exhibits for depositions and/or trial; Pre-trial check of jury questionnaires and jury lists; work with attorneys on arbitration/trial exhibits and potential testimony using litigation support software, such as Sanction; will be asked to attend arbitration/trial with the attorney; settled, preparation on an initial draft of release and dismissal entry; In cases to be appealed, preparation of Notice of Appeal, praecipe and docketing statements as well as preparation of outline of trial transcript; In certain cases, preparation of post-judgment documents, including praecipes for certificates of judgment; The litigation paralegal should follow-up various details in specific cases as requested by the assigning attorney; Closing files: work on organizing all files, with detailed index for easy retrieval in the future, if necessary. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in an ABA approved Paralegal program. 5+ years experience in litigation law practice. Strong understanding of litigation terms and technological skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, some knowledge of the capabilities of litigation software such as: Summation, Sanctions. Superior research skills, including the use of online services, databases and the Internet. Superior organizational skills. Project and case management skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical, problem solving and decision making skills. Ability to work independently and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
