Patent Paralegal Candidate will work with an integrated team across firm s offices to perform paralegal functions of a variable nature which require a significant degree of knowledge, decision making and independent judgment. Will play an important role in our ability to deliver exceptional client service. Will: Develop and maintain systems to collect, store and retrieve data. Locate and expedite requested documentation; draft original correspondence and materials for communication under attorney s signature; draft original correspondence to various parties and clients for own signature. Communicate with clients, government agencies/officials, consultants and various other parties on a regular basis to collect and assemble information. Qualifications: A Bachelor degree and/or paralegal certificate or equivalent experience within an Intellectual Property practice area. 2+ years' IP patent prosecution experience (preferred). Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated analytical ability. The ability to set priorities, exercise independent judgment, and initiate projects. The ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines; responsible; resourceful; professional. Basic knowledge of all aspects of U.S. patent prosecution, including: identifying incoming communications from the USPTO and foreign associates and preparation of template responses for same. Experience conducting searches on databases. Knowledge of online resources including EFS-Web electronic filing system and PAIR, Global IP Estimator, and at least one docket database (preferably Foundation IP). Legal Secretary - Patent Litigation Duties: Performs a variety of secretarial responsibilities to assist attorneys in litigation practice. Provide administrative support such as meeting arrangements, calendar appointments, update contacts information, handle routine correspondence, make photocopies, arrange travel, etc. Answer and place telephone calls, take messages when requested. Review and prioritize incoming mail, scan and distribute case-related items to team, link on web page, and file in appropriate paper file. Transcribe dictation, draft and revise letters, memoranda, pleadings, forms, and other documents. Open and maintain new client and matter files. Manage attorneys docket; communicate deadlines to team. Establish, organize and maintain case files, including pleadings, correspondence, notebooks, depositions, exhibits, production documents, document indexes, in both paper and electronic form. Retrieve files, cases, depositions, exhibits, documents, and other information as requested. Prepare for and electronically file pleadings with the Court, and service of same. Make necessary arrangements for depositions. Assist team in preparation for out of town depositions and trial. Enters timesheets and processes billing, reviews and sends out client invoices, processes incoming invoices for payment. Helps out other members of the litigation group when necessary. Performs other duties or projects as assigned or requested. Qualifications: 5+ years' litigation experience. Obtain and maintain a working knowledge of attorneys areas of practice and familiarity with legal terminology, current court rules, and procedures. Obtain and maintain a working knowledge of M&G systems, policies and procedures. Attend and complete additional specific training as needed. Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint, Adobe Acrobat), Elite Webview and other software specific to the firm and the litigation group. Must possess positive, upbeat attitude and ability to stay calm under pressure. Must be a team player. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Ability to work at high level of mental effort while handling multiple tasks. Ability to concentrate on details. Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors. Paralegal certificate from ABA approved program preferred. Must be familiar with USPTO (U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) Procedures, Rules and Requirements. Should have excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently, prioritize assignments and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
