Foreign Patent Paralegal

Title : Foreign Patent Paralegal

Location : Washington - Seattle
Refer to Job # JBPH719645

This high-powered, long-established firm offers great opportunities for top-notch candidates seeking rapid growth and high volume in intellectual property and dozens of other challenging practices. We really have a lot of good things to say about this firm because the firm seems to consistently set a high mark for itself in numerous, numerous categories. For example, the attorneys in this firm are all almost universally very nice people to work with and this firm puts a real powerful emphasis on quality of life issues for both its associates and partners. Without exception, the firm’s attorneys claim they are treated with a tremendous amount of respect – the firm is genuinely interested in making long-term relationships with people. Management is extraordinarily introspective about the candidates they interview – according to one candidate, the firm is “almost philosophical” in its approach towards recruiting. Attorneys here typically bill in the 1800 range.
Foreign Patent Paralegal Duties: File International (PCT) applications and PCT follow on filings with appropriate offices. File various types of foreign patent applications with the assistance of foreign counsel. Review and understand patent docket entries, and actions needed in response to each deadline. Review incoming communications with attention to patent disclosure requirements in the U.S. and other jurisdictions. Coordinate disclosure of references where needed. Correspond with clients regarding upcoming annuity deadlines; collect annuity retainers and instruct payments through the firm s annuity payment service. Conduct patent searches. Extract and organize data retrieved from public and private databases. Respond to patent due diligence requests. Participate in patent filing strategy discussions and prepare accurate foreign filing estimates for budgeting purposes. Conduct factual research (for example: foreign requirements and allowances, chain of title, formality requirements) for patent filings using software tools and library resources. Provide litigation and transaction support as needed. Accurately and completely record billable time spent and tasks performed in accordance with firm policy and client-imposed billing protocol, enter and release time promptly in compliance with firm s announced deadlines. Accurately and promptly submit records of hours worked in compliance with firm policy and applicable employment law. Assist with U.S. patent filings. Prepare and file Information Disclosure Statements. Patent Proofreading. Verification of Patent Term Adjustment. Assist with preparation and filing of sequence listings. Prepare copyright applications; compile supporting information and documentation from clients. Qualifications: Four-year degree and completion of a paralegal program of study, or clear demonstration of equivalent knowledge and skill. 4+ years experience as an intellectual property/patent paralegal, with a significant focus on foreign prosecution. High level of familiarity with PATTSY (or equivalent Docketing software), Thomson Innovation, Thomson Connected IP Payments, Espacenet, ePCT, PATENTSCOPE, and USPTO PAIR and EFS Web filing systems. Knowledge of Paris Convention rules, PCT rules and procedures, and country law related to patents. Advanced proficiency in Internet research skills and use of Microsoft Office computerized business applications (e.g., Word, Excel, and Outlook). Ability to perform complex tasks and work independently with minimal guidance from attorneys, patent agents and/or scientific advisors. Highly professional writing skill with ability to convey substantive content clearly and concisely. Highly developed skill in time and task management, with ability to organize assignments, work calmly under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability and desire to exercise initiative and independent responsibility. Ability and desire to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues. Highly developed attention to detail in striving for perfection in work product and client service. Ability to protect client confidentiality in compliance with rules of ethics and firm policy. Availability and willingness to travel, if needed. Availability and willingness to work extended or flexible hours as needed to accommodate client needs. Legal 4 - 0 Full Time 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Patent Attorney

Title : Patent Attorney

Location : California - Palo Alto
Refer to Job # BTSD719085

This is one of the largest firms in the State of California. We met a hiring authority of this firm for lunch recently, and because this individual did not know us, we were seated at the table next to them. We did not talk to them for over an hour of waiting time, until we discovered that the hostess had forgotten to seat us together, and had seated us a table apart. Needless to say, we both got a good laugh out of that. This firm is very strong in most of its practice areas, including litigation, labor and banking work. Some of the more distinguished litigators in the State of California call this firm their home. The management of this firm is also awfully good and has managed to stay small despite the proliferation of massive management committees at other large law firms. Associates at this firm also seem to fraternize together quite well. One recently held a "keg party" at his home for other associates and there was a large and enthusiastic turnout. This is a real quality of life law firm, and the people here seem to enjoy their lives both at and outside of work. Not surprisingly, a firm of this caliber is able to attract top attorneys of all backgrounds and has managed to remain fairly selective in its hiring. We also like the diversity of this firm and its people. Finally, we think the associates working here tend to be quite "chatty," and the partners even seem this way too. We like chatting because we talk on the phone for a living so this firm gets thumbs up from us. This is the ideal spot for bright, ambitious attorneys with solid work experience and outstanding academic achievements.
Patent Attorney The candidate will handle of variety of patent projects, including drafting, prosecuting, post-grant proceedings, opinions, and due diligence. Will have the opportunity to work with leading clients through direct contact in fields related to pharmaceuticals, biologics, and diagnostics. Should preferably have 1-2 years of experience and a Ph.D. in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry. Must be admitted to practice in California and before the USPTO. Candidates finishing or have recently finished PhD program in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry will be considered. Legal 1 - 2 Full Time 0000-00-00 00:00:00
