Paralegal Personal Injury Duties: Responsibility includes case management by reviewing and analyzing claims file materials, preparing notebooks, indexing and comparing documents, and creating and maintaining medical chronologies and billing summaries. Will be responsible for all aspect of discovery, which includes preparing and serving discovery requests, summarizing discovery responses, and identifying and obtaining all documents needed to complete discovery. Entail preparing Subpoenas Duces Tecum and conducting investigation research. Will be responsible for assisting the attorney with exhibits, documents, and file preparation for deposition, arbitration, and/or trial. Will be required to identify and understand each client-specific billing guideline and ensure all billable work is being performed within those guidelines. Multi-task, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple deadlines. Move cases forward with little supervision. Monitor and case management of litigation files, including tracking deadlines. Draft various pleadings such as Motions, Affidavits, Orders, Request for Production, Requests for Admissions, Subpoena Duces Tecum, etc., specific to case. Review and respond to written discovery requests. Review medical records/bills and create medical summary and medical billing. Perform in-depth research and investigation for case development. Assist attorneys with exhibits, documents, and file preparation for deposition, arbitration, and trial. Identify and understand each client-specific billing guideline to ensure work is being performed within those guidelines. The candidate must have 2+ years of experience working in insurance defense, specifically personal injury. Someone who has demonstrated the ability to handle complex assignments, work independently, have excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills, and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously. Familiarity with medical chronologies and/or the insurance industry is a plus, as well as experience in preparing Motions, Affidavits, Orders, Request for Production, Requests for Admissions, Subpoena Duces Tecum. Report to clients regarding deadlines, renewals and maintenance. Prepare, file and prosecute copyright applications. Assist with filing and service of TTAB actions, including oppositions, cancellations and appeals. Prepare and file assignment and security interest recordations. A strong understanding of docketing procedures and will be responsible for administering daily docketing clearing, and reviewing trademark mail. Monitor and track all due dates daily, distribute mail to the responsible attorney for actions, conduct or assist in conducting legal research. Find relevant cases, law review articles and statutes, and prepare memoranda analyzing research results. Continuing legal education due to changes to U.S. and foreign trademark procedures. A Bachelor's degree is required, and a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved training program is preferable. Will have significant substantive working knowledge of USPTO and Madrid Protocol and foreign filing requirements; considerable experience in foreign and domestic trademark prosecution and maintenance. Should have proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software, docketing systems and/or other automated control databases, (LEXIS, Westlaw,) and database retrieval systems. Must have strong organizational, delegation and leadership skills. Should have excellent analytical skills and the experience necessary to understand and summarize case-related documents.
