Litigation Paralegal Duties: Responsible for administrative case management and litigation support. Work closely with the Litigation Associates to manage electronic and hard copy documents, prepare filings, memoranda and other work product and facilitate a seamless flow of information to and from the attorneys and/or clients. Develop the foresight to anticipate and respond to the needs of the attorneys, the clients and/or the case as necessary. Responsible for overall case file maintenance, including indexing and filing case materials. Assists with preparing court filings, productions and other materials. Manage hard copy and electronic case documents, including managing email and electronic files and preparing binders of hard copy documents. Perform cite-checking and Bluebooking of attorney written work product (client memoranda, court filings (including briefs), ABA publications, and scholarly articles). Proofread and edit attorney work product for accuracy (grammar, usage, and content). Research current events and perform key word searches on Lexis and other news data bases. Develop expertise in use of document review tools, including gaining ability to prepare sets of documents to be produced and perform key-term searches over the data. Maintain and manage databases on Concordance and other applications as necessary. Liaises with other office support staff, to ensure efficacy of workflow. Qualifications: Bachelors Degree. 0-1 year of experience. Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize changing priorities. Ability to create a friendly and professional rapport with attorneys, staff and external parties. Ability to work overtime and weekends as required. Litigation Paralegal Duties: Participates as a team member and assists attorneys, senior paralegals and litigation technology professionals in various litigation matters by playing a key role in the work required to support the firm's clients. Support to case teams in all aspects of litigation support, through trial and the appeal process. Manages and utilizes automated litigation support tools. Coordinates and manages paper and electronic document collections, reviews and productions. Understands and utilizes rudimentary e-discovery and computer forensic concepts, such as, preservation of data and chain of custody. Creates, implements and maintains organizational systems for discovery phase of litigation, including, document collection review and production tracking logs, privilege logs, deposition material, and exhibit logs. Assembles exhibits and appendices for court papers, depositions and trials. Creates, implements and maintains case file and workroom organizational systems. Prepares for and attends depositions, hearings, trials and arbitrations. Understands database concepts and terminology. Assists and coordinates automated litigation support projects through utilization of technology, including, but not limited to, database management software (web repository or in-house) and Case Notebook. Analyzes and reviews various documents as required by lawyers.Prepares documents, such as statistical charts and graphs. Performs litigation due diligence searches, obtains docket sheets and other court papers utilizing electronic tools. Utilizes legal research software such as Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis for case retrieval and citation reference. Communicates, corresponds and interacts with clients and outside entities, such as government agencies, expert witnesses, corporations and other law firms to gather information or data. Complies with department and firm administrative procedures, policies and best practices. Assists with department projects as needed and performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Paralegal Manager. Responsible for billing of 1600+ hours of client-related projects and other credited work. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, 2+ years solid litigation experience and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the litigation process and e-discovery. Significant contact with lawyers, paralegals and litigation technology professionals and requires strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Must be a self-starter, highly organized and a team player. Able to maintain strict confidentiality of the firm's internal and personnel affairs and client information.Understands ethics of position including ethical rules in regards to confidentiality, billing, and client representation and advocacy. Able to interact effectively and professionally with clients and all levels of personnel, including attorneys, co-workers and administrators. Able to be a proactive, self-starter who understands the details within a much larger context. Able to own professional development by seeking out feedback and learning new skills. Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities; able to work under tight deadlines. Able to plan, organize and complete multiple related activities. Paralegals are expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm s clients, attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm s visions and values. Conduct statutory, regulatory or factual research with respect to client matters. Such research might include investigation of federal or state laws and regulations, relevant markets, corporate participants and industry standards and practices. Participate in due diligence, privilege and other reviews of client records and files. Assist with organization of client materials and attorney work product, including use of databases, imaging systems and other computer-based technology. Maintain pleadings files and other case or project records; circulate materials to project team, as needed. Maintain chronological records of project activity. Arrange filings, mailings and service list deliveries with appropriate courts, government agencies and other parties. Under the supervision of an attorney, draft, edit, cite-check, conform and otherwise assist in the preparation of legal documents. Prepare binders of completed transactions. Obtain services from outside contractors, including court reporters, research services, exhibit preparation services, filing services and printers. Process billing and disbursement paperwork in connection with those services. Act as liaison for the project team with support departments and other offices of the firm, anticipating and assuming responsibility for special staffing needs, such as overtime, clerical and/or notary assistance. As requested by the Practice Group Manager, local office Paralegal Coordinator or assigned attorneys, coordinate work of other paralegals and/or project assistants or clerical team members. Requirements: BA/BS degree required. Legal Assistant/Paralegal certification desired. Ability to read, write and speak English. Substantive knowledge of and familiarity with specific areas of law. Strong analytical and research skills. Thorough knowledge of MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate potentially detailed and complex information to others. Aptitude and willingness to work with complex procedures. Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to organize self and others. Demonstrated strong attention to detail. Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner. Ability to work independently and with a team. Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities.
