Litigation Paralegal Duties: Will be responsible for assisting attorneys during the litigation process. Will be handling pre-claim investigations, drafting legal documents, maintaining indexes and organizing case files, and handling electronic filing with applicable state and federal courts. Be well versed in both federal and state court procedure and filing requirements, to include e-filing in federal courts and state courts. Specifically, experience in North Carolina state and federal courts. Perform administrative duties, such as calendar hearings, court and discovery deadlines. Manage hard copy and electronic case documents, including managing email and electronic files and preparing binders of hard copy documents. Provide internet research including pulling cases from Lexis and Westlaw, as needed, along with conducting research and analyzing various law sources. Assist with the general aspects of document productions (redacting, copying, Bates stamping). Assist attorneys with preparation of motions. Cite-check, bluebook and Shepardize briefs and legal memoranda. Drafting of routine court documents. Organize, analyze, and index documents and exhibits. Assist with all aspects of deposition preparation. Organize and prepare witness files and trial notebooks. Create and maintain trial exhibit and deposition designation databases; assist with preparation of pre and post-trial briefs. Create and maintain working files for attorneys and index files for long-term storage. Convey information to individuals at all levels within the firm in a courteous and professional manner; strong service orientation. Organizes and manages litigation cases from inception to trial and appeal including document productions, deposition preparation and trial preparation. Requirements: Bachelor's degree with ABA paralegal certification or Associates/Bachelor's degree in Paralegal studies, preferred. 7 years of minimum litigation paralegal experience. Knowledge and understanding of legal principles and practices. Experienced in all areas of paralegal duties from inception of case to trial and appeal, including case management, general research utilizing Westlaw, case retrieval, bluebooking, cite checking and proof reading pleadings. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and litigation support applications such as Relativity. Trial experience required. Ability to apply understanding and knowledge of the litigation process from pretrial to post-trial. Strong organizational and problem solving skills. Prefer experience with case or claim management programs or databases. Superior interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication across a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys and staff while maintaining high level of work quality and customer service. Consistently and accurately identify and prepare all documents for production including bates labeling and redacting for privileged and confidential information. Effectively assists in preparation for trial including managing exhibits and all evidentiary matters, witness lists, files and subpoenas, coordinates and attends witness prep meetings; assists at trial. Conducts online research and able to utilize the firm s electronic resources efficiently and effectively. Able to juggle multiple assignments and/or deadlines while maintaining a professional demeanor and timely seeks assistance when needed. Willing and capable to offer assistance to others when needed.
