Litigation Paralegal The candidate will be responsible for preparing and filing key legal documents required for the Litigation process, and monitoring and maintenance of the ongoing Litigation cases. Will be required to use analytical and critical thinking skills when completing work. Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, constitutions and legal codes. Prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, responses, objections, and notices. Prepare, answer, and compile discovery documents. Retrieve, review and analyze documents provided by the client to ensure their accuracy in order to prepare the legal documents. Documents to be reviewed may include detailed client screen prints, loan documents, or account statements. Research for missing information and documents, and request from client, if needed. Edit and revise documents as instructed by Attorney and Client. File legal documents with using the court s required method. Maintain calendar of pending hearing dates, times and locations. Prepare Attorney for hearings and trials, receive hearing and trial results from Attorney and Court, and communicate results to the client. Retrieve, review, and analyze specific dockets and all incoming mail received through the physical mail or through the Court s Electronic Case Filing system. Make Attorneys and/or clients aware of any situation(s) that may require attention. Communicate, negotiate settlements, and otherwise work with opposing counsel on matters requiring to do so. Perform investigations for identification and location of parties, file summonses with court, choose process servers, maintain contact and specific instruction to process servers and private investigators. Subpoena and notify witnesses of trial. Draft witness outlines and lists. Create and compile trial documents, chronology or timeline notebook, trial notebook, and exhibit lists. Record all forms of communication from and to the Client by updating the Firm s internal case-management system, CaseMax. Accurately track and record billable hours into CaseMax. Image and label documents necessary for document preparation to the Firm s image center, PaperWise. The candidate should have High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have Legal experience or an Associate s Degree in Paralegal or related field. Must have intermediate knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs. Paralegal - Business Licensing & Compliance Duties: Meet/communicate with clients as needed to gather information & documents required for liquor licensing and other business licensing and/or for real estate or corporate transactions; Prepare various documents and applications related to the licensing process such as applications for state, county, & city liquor licenses; applications for other required licenses (food, lottery, etc.); sales; and other tax registrations, etc.; Coordinate with relevant state, county, and city offices confirming all necessary documentation & fees required for licensing; monitor timing of process; and maintain good working relationships with various governmental offices; Monitor status of filed license applications to ensure licenses are received timely; Maintain database for tracking deadlines and required information related to required renewals for all licensing clients; Research & review regulations/requirements to determine operating requirements for various licenses, promotional ideas, and regulatory compliance; Assist with ensuring ongoing compliance by licensed businesses and assist when compliance issues arise, including attendance with attorneys at hearings or city council meetings; Prepare first drafts of real estate or closely held corporate transaction documents such as deeds, articles of incorporation, and minutes; Create timelines/work plans documenting steps required to obtain necessary licenses or to close real estate or corporate transactions; Coordinate filing of necessary forms & documents for licensing, real estate or corporate transactions; Order title commitment & exception documents and assist with review of title commitments, exception documents, and surveys; Coordinate with vendors as needed regarding preparation of needed reports such as surveys; inspections; evaluations; and other related reports/things needed for completion of licensing process or real estate transaction; Prepare closing binders and/or licensing packets to provide to clients in format(s) suitable for client needs/requests; Use technology to perform tasks efficiently and effectively to best serve client needs; and Other duties as assigned. Requirements: 3+ years' legal experience paralegal certificate a plus Liquor licensing or similar regulatory licensing experience is preferred; Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; Efficient and effective with great time management skills; and Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and prioritize projects. Must possess the following outstanding skills and attributes: Great communication skills(verbal and written); Collaborative team player able to work well with others; Self-motivated; and Understanding of project and process management.
