Litigation Paralegal

Title : Litigation Paralegal

Litigation Paralegal Duties: Oversee all aspects of file to ensure materials are maintained in central location in organized fashion. Receive and login all documents collected; coordinate with vendors to process collected documents for review database with focus on budget; coordinate and negotiate with vendors for fair pricing; load all processed documents into review database; export responsive documents to production volumes; login all review and production volumes; maintain database tracking chart. Prepare first draft of privilege logs; assist lawyers with completing same; finalize same for service. Manage all documents/materials forwarded to experts; login same to assist with exhibit to expert reports of materials reviewed. Assist with preparation for depositions, including assembly of materials in chronological order for review and/or use as exhibits; index all deposition exhibits; maintain deposition log; coordinate with court reporters to ensure all materials received and in proper format. Assemble and maintain hot document chronologies. Perform research including: people tracing to locate witnesses; expert witness articles and references; factual background; corporate registered agents; corporate SEC filings. Prepare trial notebooks (Live Pleadings; Exhibits; Discovery; Depositions and Trial List Notebook); coordinate with vendors for presentation of exhibits and deposition videos at trial; prepare draft trial exhibit list. Coordinate transfer of materials and supplies to trial and back and forth to office as needed; monitor exhibit activity and update exhibit list; confer with court reporter and opposing paralegal at end of trial to confirm admitted exhibits; coordinate with trial vendor. Qualifications: 4+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal. Extremely high proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat software required. Strong proficiency and/or ability to quickly master a wide variety of other communication and document management software solutions preferred: ShareFile FTP; iPro Eclipse SE (Desktop); Relativity; Trial Director; and Dropbox. Strong organizational and proofreading skills required. Must possess adaptable and pleasant demeanor and readily adjust to changes in firm procedures and policies. Litigation Paralegal The candidate will assist attorneys in all aspects of pre-trial preparation, trial preparation and post-trial. Will deal with intake and review of client file. Obtain and index/organize all documents provided by the client relative to the litigation, including chronology of documents using CaseMap. Discuss factual background of case with attorney and make recommendations concerning any further factual investigation necessary. Set motions for trial, obtain scheduling orders, and handle pleadings. Prepare initial draft of complaint/petition. Prepare other form pleadings not involving substantive legal theory such as motions to compel, etc. Handle discovery; preparation of initial discovery; review of received discovery and work with client to answer discovery. Review client's draft answers to interrogatories and discussion with attorney concerning same. Prepare any necessary revisions of answers. Prepare and organize documents for production, in certain cases by e-discovery. Prepare/Obtain deposition dates. Prepare initial draft notices of depositions with subpoena preparation. Schedule reporter and conference room. Schedule witness interview, informing witness of trial dates. In certain cases, may be asked to conduct an initial interview experts. Research defense experts and retain plainitff's experts. Schedule appointment with expert witness(es). Prepare draft letter to expert, and forward materials for review. Edit videos and depositions. Prepare and mark exhibits for depositions and/or trial. Prepare form pre-trial motions. Prepare electronic trial notebooks. Pre-trial check of jury questionnaires and jury lists; Settlement & Mediation. Attend trial with the attorney. Prepare on an initial draft of release and dismissal entry. Prepare notice of appeal and order record on appeal. Prepare motion to supplement record based on attorney review of omitted documents. Prepare motion for extension briefing deadlines. Work on organizing all files, with detailed index for easy retrieval in the future, in necessary. Ensure file is scanned in and moved to closed files. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree. Must have 5+ years of experience in plaintiff's personal injury litigation law practice. Strong understanding of litigation terms is required. Case Management System experience is needed. Project and case management skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines essential. Should have working knowledge of trial presentation software and of syncing video depositions and deposition transcripts. Must have superior research skills, including the use of online services, databases, and the Internet. MS Word skills are needed. Superior organizational skills are essential. Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently is required.
