Litigation Paralegal The candidate will perform various substantive legal duties under the supervision and direction of the attorneys in the Litigation practice group. Organize and maintain files from the inception of the case through the completion. Conduct factual investigations and interviews to identify key parties, related issues and relevant documents for the preparation of discovery. Assist in the preparation of answers to interrogatories and responses to requests for production of documents. Coordinate depositions of parties requested by attorneys. Summarize and organize depositions, records and testimony utilizing litigation support technology tools. Draft various pleadings and filings in Federal and State level civil litigation. Assist with all aspects of case litigation, trial preparation including identifying and marking exhibits for motions, position papers, mediation depositions and trial. Verify case citations in briefs for current validity and accuracy through Westlaw. Interact with various government and court officials as well as with clients. Maintain attorney calendars with case deadlines. Assist in trial with exhibits, demonstrative aids and witnesses. Maintain timesheets and meet firm deadlines in accordance with Firm policies. Perform other duties as required. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. A four-year college degree and a certificate in paralegal studies are preferred. Significant prior experience may be substituted for a combination of the educational requirements is essential. Must have 3-5 years of litigation experience and the ability to manage complex litigation using current technology. Should have a high level of computer literacy including proficiency in MS Office Software Suite and a working knowledge of a document management system. Experience using electronic resources and litigation support software is strongly preferred. Excellent time management, organizational abilities and strong proofreading skills are also required. Assist attorneys at depositions (when necessary) and trials in the preparation of motions, briefs, pleadings and exhibits. Provide immediate research and document retrieval when called upon during trial (using trial document management software) and post-trial proceedings. Perform lead work as necessary, assists with difficult or unusual assignments, resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions. Follow the ethical requirements as set forth by the New Mexico Rules of Professional Conduct. Must preferably possess of Paralegal Certification/Degree from an accredited institution. Should have 2+ years of full-time paralegal experience in a public or private law office. Should preferably have 5 years of experience with complex civil litigation in both state and federal court, including handling all aspects of a case through trial and on appeal. Knowledge of electronic court filing procedures and rules for state and federal courts, including appellate court is preferred. Significant trial preparation and trial experience in state and federal court is preferred. Extensive experience with and demonstrated proficiency with the following: MS-Word, Office 2010, MS-Excel, Adobe-Pro, Westlaw or LexisNexis, TrialDirector or other trial management software, Worldox or other document management software, Elite or other law firm time and billing software, Proven expertise in cite-checking, legal research, writing and analysis skills.
