Associate Attorney Duties: Performing legal services related to various legal transactions for municipalities and counties. May include, drafting, reviewing and editing a variety of contracts, resolutions and ordinances, coordination with City or other government departments or agencies, involvement in the City Council agenda process, and responding to public information act requests. Additional consideration will be given to individuals with public or private utilities or in-house city or county experience. Sound judgment and good technical skills. Provide counseling and strategic advice to various local governmental entities, such as Cities and Counties, their elected officials and staff and boards and commissions, both orally and in writing; Respond to client inquiries; Provide appropriate legal interpretation of rules and laws that govern the conduct of local governmental business: Assist departments in drafting resolutions and ordinances for adoption by City Councils and Commissioner s Courts; Draft and review contracts and other legal agreements/documents with other governmental bodies and third parties; Draft and review easements, real estate agreements and deeds, etc.; Assist in litigation matters handled by the partners of the firm, as necessary; Conduct legal research. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an ABA accredited law school with a JD Degree; Currently licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Texas; 3 + years of experience working with attorneys practicing in the areas of municipal law (e.g. land use, public records, public works, real property, public finance, public contracts) preferred. Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues inside and outside of the office. Treats others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect. Considers and responds appropriately to the needs and feelings of different people in different situations. Relates comfortably with diverse groups of people. Carries out assigned projects to their completion. Asks for direction as appropriate. Balances among competing priorities and multitasks appropriately. Shows a commitment to serve the public. Ensures that actions meet public needs. Detail-oriented. Familiarity with utility regulatory compliance and utility contracting is a plus. Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and able to work with various types of software in the Windows environment. Must have excellent organizational skills and be proficient and knowledgeable in document management, and file and calendar management.
