Paralegal/Case Manager Duties: Data entry, including case and document management software. Use case and document management software to draft correspondence and legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, appeals, agreements, contracts, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, legal memoranda, etc. Complete tasks as assigned and calendared, including those in case and document management software. Bill one's time on certain types of cases. Make and receive phone calls from the courts, SSA, DDS, adjusters, and clients, including covering the main phone line when the office assistant is out of the office. Help set, maintain, and meet clients expectations, including to deescalate upset clients. Correspond with clients, verbally and in writing, to obtain/provide updates and information on, and answer their questions about, their cases. Conduct client intakes and interviews, including gathering enough information to give attorneys a detailed idea about what the claim is about and what follow-up questions need to be asked. Timely send signed 1696 and fee agreements to the SSA and confirm the SSA's receipt of same. Speak with clients to timely file initial applications, requests for reconsideration, and requests for hearings, as well as to timely file work history, function, and 3-part forms (among others). Correspond verbally and in writing with the SSA and DDS to obtain and communicate information about Social Security disability clients cases. Submit medical evidence to the SSA, including via Electronic Records Express. Obtain medical source statements from clients medical providers. Report personal injury and property damage claims to insurance companies. Obtain PI and Property Damage claim numbers and adjuster contact information. Send representation letters to auto/health insurance companies. Open subrogation claims with health insurance companies or Medicare. Prepare and save analysis of Personal Injury case. Follow up on client homework such as declaration pages. Prepare demand letters and evaluation letters. Call on balances for paybacks. Request reductions on subrogation claims, provider balances. Investigate, including to: lookup police report number; obtain police, fire, animal welfare reports; obtain photos, lapel, and other evidence as needed. Request 911/CADs; send IPRA requests to Police Department for video evidence. Interaction with attorneys, file clerk/office assistant, and other staff. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program of education and training, associate degree in paralegal studies, or prior case technician/paralegal experience in Social Security Disability and Personal Injury law. General knowledge of PC computers. Fluency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel. Fluency in PDF software, e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Kofax, or Nuance. Familiarity with Electronic Document Management and Filing Systems. Superb organizational and time management skills including meticulous attention to detail. Excellent communication and customer service skills, including interfacing with clients that are literally mentally and/or physically ill and thus not feeling/acting their best. Type 45 words per minute. Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record. Ability to use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions.
