Family Law Paralegal The candidate will be covering all aspects of family law litigation including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal maintenance, domestic violence, and other aspects of handling a family law docket. Handling a client's case through trial. Maintaining client files in both paper and digital form. Assisting clients in preparing financial information sheets and inventories and appraisements. Maintaining calendars and addressing conflicts in a respectful and courteous manner. Answering phones and keeping accurate messages. Preparing discovery and legal drafting of motions, pleadings, etc. Filing documents with the court. Assisting the attorney prepare for court hearings and trial. Assisting the attorney prepare for mediations, arbitrations, and other settlement conferences. Meeting deadlines and performing multiple tasks.
The candidate should have a Texas Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies. Must have 1-2 years of experience in family law. Good people skills with research, writing and verbal communication skills are needed. Should have computer and word processing skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and familiarity with research on the internet. Must be a highly motivated self-starter with an excellent understanding of a client's needs and legal problems. The ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment is a prerequisite.
