Part-time Civil Litigation Paralegal Duties: Oversee the day-to-day file handling. Supports the associates and attorneys in file handling, discovery, calendaring and scheduling. Participates in the firm s overall mission by providing top quality, cost effective legal services. Billing of time. Prepare and file Case Management Statements. Discovery (thorough understanding of California Discovery Statutes, time limits on service of various discovery items and responses.) Preparation of Requests. Prepare Form Interrogatories. Prepare Special Interrogatoriesii. Prepare Demand for Inspection. Prepare Notice of Depositions. Schedule. Arrange for court reporter. Arrange for interpreter when needed. Subpoena of records (medical, employment, financial). Review, Index and Analysis of Discovery received including: depositions; medical records, employment records, financial records; interrogatory responses, document production, request for admissions; Preparing responses to discovery. Meeting with clients to obtain information. Preparing verifications. Finalize responses. Proper service of responses. Notify clients of depositions. Assist in locating experts. Steps to retain witness. Provide appropriate information to expert. Prepare Demand for Expert Witness. Prepare Disclosure of Expert witness. Notice and where appropriate Subpoena of Experts.Law and Motion. Understand time deadlines, how to get matters filed and proofs of service. Perform initial drafting of motions. Monitor Tentative ruling.Trial (knowledge of trial process from expert discovery through trial). Prepare Jury Instructions. Brief Statement of the Case. Motions in Limine. Subpoena of Witnesses. Notify witnesses. Coordinate witnesses for trial. Prepare trial binders. Prepare witness binders. Coordinate any third-party vendors needed for trial. Post-trial; Prepare Memorandum of Costs. Qualifications: Certification or degree in paralegal or legal studies from an accredited degree program. Knowledge and Understanding of Discovery (California Discovery Statutes). 1-5 years experiences in a legal environment. 1-2 years as a paralegal. Proficient computing skills especially in the use of MS Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.). Proficient in using Time matter or other Case Management Software. Proficient in using Acrobat. Proficient in using Timeslips billing software. Proficient in using HotDocs base programs (for bother Judicial Council Forms and CACI Jury Instructions). Proficient in using Electronic Filing in Federal Courts. Dragon Naturally speaking software.
