Paralegal (Insurance Defense) Duties: Assist insurance defense attorneys in the course of their work, which often involves investigation and/or defending insurance companies against certain claims. Because insurance defense paralegals are not attorneys and have not been admitted to the bars of any state, insurance defense paralegals must always work under the direction of a practicing attorney. Prepares routine or complex legal documents for review by attorneys. Reviews, organizes and summarizes reports and other case materials. Drafts pleadings, subpoenas, discovery requests and responses, correspondence, interrogatories/answers, notices of examination under oath, and other legal documents. Assists in deposition preparation, pre-trial investigations, trial preparation, including assistance with preparation of witnesses for deposition and/or trial. Prepares depositions and trial binders. Prepare exhibits and other demonstrative evidence for use at trial. Drafts settlement agreements. Provide assistance at trial. Qualifications: bachelor's degree (B.A.) and 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Paralegal certification. ATO knowledge a plus. Problem Solving/Analysis. Ability to prioritize. Ability to follow string client guidelines. Thoroughness. Teamwork Orientation. Communication Proficiency. Initiative. Personal Effectiveness/Credibility. Presentation Skills. Technical Capacity. should be familiar with analyzing claim files and records, preparing for hearings, preparing exhibits, pleadings, and discovery, handling case management, file organization, investigations; research and trial support and have knowledge in litigation software programs.
